Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

please lift my restriction.  I will likely satisfy the posting and time rules anyway, but there are other forums I'd like to post on, other than newbies

I'd like to file a bug report (two bugs actually). Since this is my third post, I'll probably make two more in the next hour and a half and then I'll be official anyway.

Something funny happened with my post count; I have made 5 of them, but after deleting some triple posts the count reseted  Huh
Anyway, I have been reading and checking the forums long enough, but never had the need to register until now. I am not some hell of a poster, in fact I am quite lazy unless I have something important to say... would just like to have access to the whole forum in case I need it at some point.

Thank you!

Hello, name is cul. Used to work for a betting exchange in london. interested in bitcoin gambling.

Ive also seen a prop bet in the gambling section I want a piece of badly:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=173774

I hoping this tip will get me the entry. If the bet loses you owe 1.5B of a currency with a recent history of trading below 57USD. if the bet wins you win 1.5B of a currency with a recent history of trading over 57USD.

Its a no brainer imo.

Hello,

I've been floating (lurking) around the community for a while now. I was previously mining on my older video card. Just picked up a 7970.

Would like to be un-newbied because I have an issue with CGMiner now, and I don't feel like I'll get the help I need on the Newbies board. That said, I have tried posting a thread on here already. (Which has received.. very few views.) I feel like this Forum is a good large community of folks from different mining pools and different backgrounds, and someone on another board is bound to have some insight on my issue.

I believe I have an above-average understanding of Bitcoin and also of mining, since I've graduated to mining from the command line, and tweaking my video card clock rates for mining.

Hope you can help me out! Thanks!

To whom it may concern, I would like to be whitelisted if at all possible.

I've known of & have used Bitcoin since 2011. Being highly involved in what I call the "Liberty movement" the decentralized, anonymous* & free market nature of crypto currencies was second nature to me. The simple fact is that I'm not a big forum user but would like to participate it the Ripple giveaway & don't think it would be wrong to consider more than an "newbie" in the field. I don't mean to bring offense to those who do use forums & apologize if some might think I should "contribute" & not just find answers. To each his own role would be my answer to that.

Thank you in advance.

I came here from ripple and I'm trying to talk to people about ripple, but I can't because I'm locked out of those places.  It's currently 6:23PM EST and I understand that Mt. Gox will be reopening around 10PM EST.  A lot can happen then and I want to be prepared for whatever happens.  I'm trying to figure out how I can get in on the action.  I had an opportunity to buy bitcoins for less than $1 a long time ago and I'm very sad and depressed that I didn't invest $500 in bitcoins back when I had the chance.  I'm really upset about it.  Seriously.  I'm trying to be optimistic and will be willing to buy as many bitcoins as I can while the market is at a low, right now.  I suppose I can buy a few bitcoins for under $100 in the hopes that in a few years they'll be worth a lot more.  I don't expect to get rich, I think I already lost that opportunity, but at least I hope I can do something that will make me feel a bit better about myself and my life.

i believe I posted a post good enough to get me out of newbie-vile! Happy to have had some good info to share!

in the forum on Getting funds into mtGox quickly, no one had written about bitinstant. So I aded this:

As far as I know, the FASTEST way to transfer money to mtgox is through bitinstant
(they use the moneygram service at local stores like walmart, cvs, albertsons, etc)

it's quick, easy, etc you sign up and create an account at mtgox. Then you set up your transfer online at bitinstant. Then you head over to your local store of choice (they give you a list) and fill out a form with a few lines wih the account numbers for the service, and give them cash. A few minutes later, you leave, and check your email. You can choose to have them email you bitcoins to you or send it straight to mtgox - i think sending it straight to mtgox is safer bc then you can choose when to buy and at what rate.

in the end, it takes about an hour - to fill out the info online, get cash, go to the store to transfer, and get your confirmation email.

I would like to be whitelisted.  I've been following bitcoin on Reddit for the last several months and am currently buying through Coinbase.  I'm looking forward to bitcoin growing as an online currency through most of North America and Europe, but I also see a lot of potential in China and Russia.  More importantly, I think bitcoin is going to enable developing countries, especially in parts of Africa and South America where international borders are a hindrance to conventional currencies.

Thanks!

To whom it may concern:

I am a currency trader and have been closely following BTC. I'd like to discuss BTC and perhaps also XRP strategies. I'm not good with small talk, & would prefer non-restricted forum access for relevant discussion only.

I'd like to be able to post in the Hardware forum concerning the mining performance of 7950 vs 7970 graphics cards. Been mining using pooled mining for a long time. I know what bitcoin is and how it works.
