The definition of IOT (internet of things):

"The internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data.[1] In 2013 the Global Standards Initiative on Internet of Things (IoT-GSI) defined the IoT as "the infrastructure of the information society." [2] The IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure,[3] creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit.[4][5][6][7][8][9] When IoT is augmented with sensors and actuators, the technology becomes an instance of the more general class of cyber-physical systems, which also encompasses technologies such as smart grids, smart homes, intelligent transportation and smart cities." (source)

Some projects that hype IOT:

Tilepay
tilepay's platform leverages the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) market. The platform enables registration via a wide variety of connected devices, using the sensors to obtain data regarding consumer use of the devices per their choice, verifying the authenticity of the data, and publishing the verified data on the tilepay web marketplace.

Slock.it
Peer-to-peer (P2P) Blockchain architecture embodied in the cryptocurrency Bitcoin to manage devices and data within the Internet of Things (IoT).

ROKOS
"You can start testing and developing new integration with ROKOS and your favorite cryptocurrencies for your IoT projects."

CRYPTOTRONIX
A consultancy specializing in IoT security. We focus on device key management solutions with dedicated embedded cryptographic hardware.

21
Install 21 and get bitcoin on any device. Earn bitcoin on every HTTP request.

MODUM
Ensuring drug safety with blockchain technology.

What I'm wondering is: Where are all the products?

What applications have true value and functionality?  Do they actually solve any problems that currently plague the modern world?  Won't the 'IOT' be brand-specific and, as such, proprietary - meaning more issues for open-source projects such as crypto-integration?

I'd like your opinions on the matter, because it seems as if more and more copycats are released each day, using 'IOT' as a buzzword to catch blind investors.

IoT is just internet enabled devices. Like the new Fridges that tell you when you are low on food. Like someone can't open the fridge door and look.. lol

So why do we need IoT enabled devices? So Russian hackers can have complete control? no.. So US Government backed hackers can have complete control? yes.. Its a surveillance tool for the control freaks running the show.

Why would we need to attach money and a blockchain of all things to internet enabled toasters? There simply is no reason whatsoever. Other than to make the pushers of this new drug some cashola. $$$

I find it funny that you ask this when you KNOW that this site is a PnD site for alt coins .. thats all .. nothing more..

True, I agree with everything you've said. I just don't understand why everyone can't come up with a better marketing strategy. I guess that question could be answered with BADecker's comment above  Tongue
