Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- Newbies cannot upload their own avatars.
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

I like the idea, but how did this policy come about? there must be some sort of reason behind it.

That's exactly what I wondered. Doesn't seem harsh enough to delay those with ill intentions.

I don't see this doing much except inconveniencing the genuinely determined trolls, though.

Exactly.  Now we need a crap-post board just to post "1", "2", "3", "4", and "5".

Seems like there should be some other way to that people are legit.

Except now I have to make empty messages of content to get those 5 posts created so i can really post where i want hah...

Well, i think it's kinda hard to become a member who can post stuff.. Very frustrating at times. I didnt even know at first i had to post 5 replies and be online for 4 hours before i could post something. I kept searching for that reply button, lol

Completely agree. I'm sure it's explained somewhere, but I had to Google for how to post on bitcointalk before understanding this.

Maybe a good idea to put some big bold red text at registration time?

these restrictions are frustrating.
i want to post in the normal forums and have to wait and post stuff that I don't think add value.

I wonder if this time restriction is just to for us to learn the posting system

I get why there need to be some restrictions, but you practically invite us to game the system:

every newbie interested in posting will simply fire off 5 trivial messages, wait 5 hours, and he's in.

(like what i'm doing now)

Not sure which Bitcoin wallet you should use? Get Electrum!

I think it's good idea. There is more and more people interested in this topic and because of this more and more trolls.

Trouble is the bitcoin community seems to label anyone even slightly sceptical about bitcoins as a 'troll'.

4 hours of actively using the forum??? How on earth am I going to spend that much time solely in the Newbies forum? That is horrible. All those "yes agree" and "thank you!"'s are quite enough after only half a minute....
