Hi, I am fairly new to bitcoin and im thinking of starting to mine..Im planning to invest in antminers..Can anyone tell me which is better? Investing in a brand new S7, or just invest in a couple of used S5's..i have a friend who has a few S5's that he is willing to sell me for cheaps since he is upgrading to S7's.. power is no problem since i would be able to dedicate a 1 or 2 solar panel generators that i already have installed in my home..I could just redirect that to AC and the miners if ever..

My main question is, can 2 or 3 S5's generate same hashing output as a S7 can? or which is more? and do i really need an airconditioned room? or a room with open space that could disperse the heat will do?

help would be greatly appreciated..Cheesy

So many variables to consider. In regards to heat, it all depends on your ambient temperature. You'd at least need an exhaust fan venting hot air out of the room.

Power wise the S7 would be better as its more efficient in its design compared to the S5.

Don't forget noise. You would not want to live in a room with two S5 or S7 running.

Well as for the noise, i could place them in the defunct studio that i do not use anymore..and what do you mean powerwise? like the electricity it consumes or hashing? like i said, electricity is no issue..i just want to try my hand out in the cryptocurrency game since the way i see it, its gonna stay for a long time, and even if im not the first to do it, i might as well gain a foothold and see what its like..if i should invest in more machines or not..

Hashing wise the S7 is more efficient (hashpower vs the electricity it uses). So you get more bang for buck per machine. The other thing is the electric cabling you have in the location they will be. Is it beefy enough to accept multiple miners?

That's fair enough then. Not a bad way to start mining. Just make sure you have ventilation sorted. Im only a home miner with one "hacked" S7-LN at the moment and that produces enough heat to heat my room to a nice 22c even with a couple of small windows open.
