I agree with the previous posts. At the current price ($1400) and with no PSU included I'm not even going to consider it. IMO $1,000 would be the maximum reasonable price for this miner at the time of launch. Oh, and they should've designed the PSU to be able to power two of these miners. What a flop!

Damn.  BTC2.431 for it. So much for the $1,000 ballpark they gave when they announced the R4.
Think I'll just get another s9 instead, BTC2.792 for a batch 13 and >4THs more speed...

Sadly this is way over priced for me.  I would've considered it at $1000 just to play with it but not at this price.

Shipping is included.

That is not true.  It specifically says that shipping is not included and you have to add the item to your cart and go to check out to get actual shipping costs.

Totally agree with you guys. WAAAAY over priced!!! If you're willing to spend that much you may aswell spend the another $200 on an S9 for the other 33% of hashpower.

That's my weekend ruined, thought I was actually going to get some decent hashpower for a HOME MINER. Yes Bitmain that's right a HOME MINER hasn't got $1395 to spend (plus shipping) just for a quiet-er miner.

Your looking at an over 400 day ROI for a home user.  No thank you!  Why are they pricing it so high?  It should be in the $800 or less range.

$800 is what I was thinking, especially since they are marketing it as a "Home" miner.

The S9 will always be a better TH/BTC cost because its designed for mass deployment at the disregard of how fast/loud the fan is as a result. This is supposed to appeal to the opposite end of the market that might want to undervolt (is that possible on these?), mod, or otherwise mine with a very quiet miner (such as a dorm/rental where power isnt paid for (by the student/renter)

IMO their target market is people who have rediculously cheap/free electricity, but lack the means and desire to deal with a big noisy miner such as the S9.

it will be interesting to see just how quiet it is. is it quieter than an s9 underclocked to a similar hashrate (ie: ~70% load)?
--
The flipside is that this price will create a confirmation for some that the s9 is their better deal (ie: if paying for power and capable of handling the noise) and push some sales there.

If that's their focus, they're shooting for a pretty limited market - and it's further limited to people within that group who are approximately idiots given the pricing and return estimates.

Also if it's the same power base as S9, which appears to be similar to S7, it's probably undervoltable but not without some hackery.

Cool, quiet and up to 1TH pod miner, on sale now!

R4 to force people to buy S9?
Interesting angle.

Im not so sure - bitmain isnt very transparent, but I expect that they experience a lot of orders for only 1-2 units from users who never reorder, and/or are unsatisfied by just how loud it can be (we see some in the forums).

I think there is probably a half-decent market for miners that have high efficiency and run quietly, without problems. enough to justify a 30% premium. if someone has cheap power (free-0.04/kwh) but lives in a condo, apartment, thinwalls, unappy wife, etc where the excess noise of the S9 is unacceptable. I havent played with an S9 yet, but i presume its as loud, or louder, than an S7 (which i ran at ~90% speed simply because it was too loud to be in a storage area of a mid-sized building). If this thing is significantly quieter than an underclocked s9, that will justify the premium for some users.

if you have free electricity, you can roi (almost) anything. but if noise is a major issue, most bitmain miners are a terrible option. everything since S3 is just too loud, even when underclocked extensively. a near-whisper miner would make a lot of people happy and capable of building a small (<5kw) setup at home without going deaf

I'd say that anything with a breakeven point two generations in the future even with free electric is a terrible investment, quiet or not.

greedily, as usually there not giving anything up your better off spending, a few hundred more and buy a s9 then mode the S9 after warranty o wait they don't honor there warranty either. o well,

the selling point has to be quiet and what is there idea of quiet.

the Avalon's are quiet and can be run all most any were over what bitmain did after the S3, but it will sell, i don't blame anyone for buying a R4, if they do, i wouldn't even if i could afford one, if it had been priced maybe at 1k  or little less, I would have got the cash to gather . I want to at least feel i got something that is worth what i paid for it, ROI doesn't mean to much to me unless your idea of ROI is mine there are other ways of looking at ROI like how long will it last was it worth the cash i paid etc not will it make back what i put into it Smiley .

Your looking at an over 400 day ROI for a home user.  No thank you!  Why are they pricing it so high?  It should be in the $800 or less range.

all i can think is they have to much and are greedily, and can be and they know it .

cya .

lmao. I got up late by 2 hours then I saw it's still available on the website so I thought there must be shit happened. no surprise, USD 1395 and 9kg shipping weight. Perfect for a Monday joke. Is this going to be the old C1 model?

EDIT: And I appreciate the fact that the pricing is nowhere near my expectations of 800~1000, so I don't even have to fight myself over to decide. easy peace off.

yup looks like my hosting customers r not ordering either , at 1k they would have bought but at 1400$ + shipping it makes more sense to buy the s9 which is 4.3th faster for only 200$ more

This deal looks like buyers would earn better by just buying the bitcoins rather than investing in this.. But who knows. I just don't see this is worth it as there are all kinds of risks involved in addition to the question if this even ever ROIs.
