I'm selling a Casascius 1 BTC Brass Coin, Series-2 (2011), ungraded. I bought this coin myself from Mike. It's uncirculated. In 2012/2013 I used these coins in travels/talks to showcase bitcoin, that's why it's a bit worn.

The coin was loaded with 1 BTC by Mike himself, and is untampered.

The coin is located in Brazil. Can trade in place if buyer is willing to meet here. Can use mutually trusted escrow.

I'm asking for BTC 1.5 + shipping costs.

As no buyer was interested, coin was popped open: http://imgur.com/3pPPU1W
I'm selling the next coin here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1621648

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Sorry to be harsh, but that coin really doesn't look good. It's unlikely that you'll get your asking price. Personally, I would pay 1.05 for it.

That's the exact same impression that I got when I looked at the images.

OP if you want to possibly achieve a higher price, I suggest getting it graded. Otherwise, I highly doubt that anyone is going to pay 1.5 BTC for a coin that does look very bad on the pictures.

I would be very curious to see what ANACS would grade this at, so I'll put up 1.08. Grin

I think this would grade at least MS-64. Tarnish isn't "bad quality".

Thanks for the reply guys, sorry for the late answer, for some reason I'm not getting post reply notifications.

I would really like to have it graded by ANACS, but since I don't live in the US, the process would not be easy.

If it sells for less than BTC 1.1, I think I'll go ahead and pop open the coin, and redeem the 1BTC bitcoin in it. At least I get to keep the actual brass coin. What would be your advice?

@Anduck, any suggestions on what can I do with the brass to remove the tarnish?

I would not suggest trying to clean the coin with anything except a light microfiber cloth. You might be best off leaving it alone, unless you plan on peeling it and keeping it Smiley

Thanks. I was never careful with these coins, I never would have imagined 4 years ago they would become valuable collectibles. Most of the times they were just thrown at the back of my office drawer.

That is the case when it comes to the early coins, 2011 brass especially. My first Brass Cas bought off eBay was pretty battered when I became the owner of it.
You won't find many of them in excellent condition, they were handled a lot. No one expected them to end up worth what they are now, and so cared for them in a similar fashion to yourself - handling them frequently, throwing them in the back of a drawer, leaving them exposed to the elements etc.
I personally know of only a couple brass coins from 2011 that have graded MS68. There is more out there, for sure, but they are few and far between.

Zepher, thanks for the encouragement. That one was popped open. Just announced the next one for sale, let's hope someone buys it.
