I'm somewhat new to the bitcoin thing despite following the news for well over a year (and kicking myself for not jumping in a lot earlier).  Up to now I've bought a couple of BTC through blockchain.info but now I see they've stopped UK purchases.  I was using pingit because of the convenience factor.

When looking at the funding options in my account, I see the only one that's not disabled is SOFORT, which I know nothing about.  If UK funding is disabled, do you think going through SOFORT would work still?

I don't know much about SOFORT, but it appears I would have to fund it in EUR.  Is this safe? Their website looks ok, but then against most scam sites do these days.  And would I have to pay a conversion fee from GBP to EUR?

Or does anyone have any suggestions for a UKer to buy Bitcoins?  localbitcoins have absurdly high asking prices at the moment (80GBP as opposed to 65GBP on blockchain).

Thanks.

I am currently awaiting verification at mt.gox, but with thousands in front of me each day it potentially quite costly.  The bank transfers in to mt.gox are also a little off putting with all the warnings all over it.

Or does anyone have any suggestions for a UKer to buy Bitcoins?

The factors that matter in order to give you the best answer include:

 - Where are you located (country)?  [You mentioned UK, GBP currency]
 - How much are you looking to buy?
 - What payment methods do you have available?
 - How soon do you need access to the proceeds?
 - Is privacy important?

With TransferWise, for instance, the TransferWise account can be funded with GBPs and then convert to EUR.  BITSTAMP is an exchange that accepts EUR SEPA transfers.  You can even fund a TransferWise account with a bank debit card,   There is further discussion of it here:

In the UK there is also
 - http://www.bitbargain.co.uk

You can send cash (GBP) in the mail to www.bitcoinnordic.com in Denmark.

Bitcoin Fridge is temporarily not selling but said would resume in April.

A fairly comprehensive list of options is compiled here:
