I wouldn't try it with a ribbon cable. If your riser uses a USB cable you could try a longer one.
Try to limit the number of connectors, that's where problems occur.

Edit: I may have misunderstood your question. I don't understand what you mean by extra card.

I won't look at the pic, the site wants me to enable scripts. It might work but it's a bad idea as I mentioned in
my original reply.

Please trash those ribbon risers and buy some powered USB risers. They are better in every respect (longer, more reliable, sturdier, easier to use, safer to use, you name it).

Please trash those usb risers if you plan to use the gpu for gaming too.  Cool

Imho, daisy chaining pcie risers is ok, as long as they make good contact between each other.

i never had a single problem with standard risers, dunno why many hate them, i think the problem lie on the quality and on the shitty dual psu side, which i will never use

I despise ribbon cables ever since I laid eyes on them back in the early IDE HDD days (i386). It's a very clumsly way of transmitting data which looks like a doorman who have no idea would coming up with.

Before I started mining I did an extensive research which concluded on all possible fronts that ribbon risers are complete shit and powered USB risers are better in every single respect. That was true even back when they were expensive in comparison - unless you bought it in bulks. I also had the displeasure to try a couple of them but I wish I didn't.

Of course, it's just an opinion but today there's no reason whatsoever to pick what is basically a medieval solution that is ribbon over the modern powered USB which is better in every single respect.

today ALL risers are chines CRAP

first they make first and maybe second batch with decent quality, then they drop price by 10-20% and start production of low utter crap

my first ribbon cables were gr8 still work, then later ppl started to burn them due low quality build or abusing power with two PSU which have connected +12v line and melting them

now I bought USB risers they work, but build quality is bad, some caps on some risers heat a lot and on other they do not, also had to replug them few times for a rig to boot ok, which if they were with good contact should never happen

probably true of much more than just risers. but the batch quality for sure can be spotty.

It's ok.

In the general case of ribbon risers:

1) You only have to power one riser. I would power the riser closest to the card.

2) If they are the typical ribbon risers, two in series would increase any RFI, if RFI is an issue.

3) Be sure where they are joined absolutely will not come in contact with any metal.

4) This is a useful trick in case one of your longer risers fails.

The only concern I would have with your particular arrangement is air flow. This is an advantage of USB risers as compared to ribbon risers.

I tried joining 2 of them together like that back in the Litecoin days and it never worked.

But dispite all the hate, I don't mind the ribbon risers. Never had an issue either. My only complaint are the really short 20cm ribbon risers.

this can be done with both ribbon n usb(usb is better as said) but the overall performance of the two cards will not be as you expected when comparing to a x16 direct one  as the port is shared
