Great response time jl777.

I never usually bother with "alt" coins but I have grabbed a wedge of KMD due to the team backing it and its technology.

Will be in KMD for the long term.
Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Thanks for your support!

For full disclosure, cryptox.pl reported the same issue, but the frequency was less than 10% and there was that little blockchain event that was going on, so I had a pretty bad response time for this same issue.

Plus it isnt a confirmed fix yet.

On the team aspect, I am now seeing discussions in the GUI space between grewalsatinder and ca333 and it is being full of jargon I dont understand. This means some pretty cool stuff will be coming out on the GUI side now that the basic release is done. For those that have never done a multiplatform release, well, from the inside it sure doesnt seem basic.

The whole installers thing is a lot more involved that anybody would expect and it consumed a lot of the GUI team's time. Now that is done, they can get back to making cool GUI.

Lets also give a shout out to the ICO platform team of btcddev and tosch. It took a bit longer than expected to get the BTCD swap feature in there, but so far there have not been any problems at all and we have processed 76 million+ KMD in payouts without any serious incidents. As usual, from the inside things are 10x more involved than it may appear on the outside. btcddev is offering his services to create customized ICO backends, so this is an endorsement from me about it.

The dozens of notary node operators providing the solid backbone for the KMD network and invaluable expertise in rapid deployment of new versions. Many notary operators will be running projects to promote KMD and help the community in many ways. A lot of them are doing it at (or even below!) cost and I am proud that so many have come forward to run notary nodes.

Miners! We also have GPU miners who are actively helping secure the network and also helping ensure a smooth network performance.

We also have a marketing team now, not to mention many users who are providing invaluable feedback on how to make komodo better.

And now, even another group, the exchanges are coming online and even though we only had several "small" exchanges active, over 100 BTC was traded yesterday. To me that seems like it isnt so small.

All this within the first days of launch.

Thank you all for helping Komodo become a top crypto project.

We are currently having KMD wallet issues again on coinexchange.io for withdrawals.

We have contacted jl777 on slack and are awaiting advice on how to fix the withdrawal issue.

Apologies for the delays.
investigating
problem identified, relates to an local error check that isnt taking into account the interests earned, so it rejects the transaction as having insufficient funds.

it would have been accepted by the blockchain as the interests are counted on validation, but I missed a case in the wallet send side.

Will take a bit of time to setup a precise edge case to duplicate this locally, but it is a local wallet transaction creation issue and not a blockchain consensus issue.

Of course, still quite important and annoying. Will work on this today

Thank you for your hard work! KMD is amazing!

Now I am curious to know how exchanges will deal with the interests: will they distribute them to each user in proportion to their KMD balances in their platform, or will they keep it for themselves (as the interest stays in their change addresses). If they keep interests to themselves, they could at least charge cheaper fees for KMD deals.

I would assume the exchanges would keep the extra KMD as they like money. If some decided to compete by offering lower commissions for KMD due to the interest, that would be up to them and the free market forces.

You might notice that we just use sendtoaddress via command line instead of some fancy system. In general I believe in using the simplest method that solves the problem, to solve problems. Complex things are complicated and can create complexity. By keeping everything as simple as possible, we can aim to create the simplest system that solves the problem.

Great response time jl777.

I never usually bother with "alt" coins but I have grabbed a wedge of KMD due to the team backing it and its technology.

Will be in KMD for the long term.
Most of the holders here are from BTCD swap and I personally highly doubt they will start unloading massive quantities of KMD in the nearest future. As improvements progress, low supply on the market will obviously do the right thing, so yes, currently it is hard to find any altcoin with better probability for price growth.

I agree.

I am ambivalent about exchanges earning interest. As you say, it incentivizes people using DEX. The -exchange option allows an exchange to quickly deploy and they might decide to keep it enabled to support the community, or to spend some effort to earn interest without incurring support issues and maybe use the funds to lower commission fees.

Freedom to choose. I think if we provide that, then it is best

I pushed a test version to the komodo dev branch that should solve the sporadic errors on sendtoaddress.

Coincidentally, it also addresses the concerns about exchanges stockpiling interests, at least during the hotfix's lifetime. I would be open to a pull request that fixes this more properly, but this area of code is the bitcoin c++ and has always been very sensitive to any changes. Since we are already live in mainnet, I dont want to change it unless there is no other option.

However, there is an other option with the new -exchange command line argument. What this does is suppress the interests calculation in just the wallet, but enabling the KOMODO_EXCHANGEWALLET mode. What that means is that whenever the wallet creates a transaction, it will pretend there is no interest. This avoids a support incident and has the effect of shifting the interest accrued from the exchange to the miners/notaries.

Of course, any exchange is free to not run in this mode by adding error handling, but at least there is an out of the box solution that solves the exchange's customer support issue.

after coinexchange.io validates this fix actually works, I will propagate it to all the branches.

Incident Reported 10:40am
Received 11:54 am
Issue identified 12:09 pm
proposed fix submitted 1:30pm

Thanks to coinexchange.io's very fast feedback, we confirm the primary error is fixed, however the fix created a secondary error in some cases. Pushed a fix for that and I have good confidence it will work.

We are currently in the process of running a 200,000 sol (yes that is not a typo) GPU mining test against the notaries.

This is to verify proper behavior under such extreme conditions. So current ROI will be meaningless as I dont expect anywhere this amount of hashrate to remain active after the test. (Unless KMD price skyrockets)

under normal conditions, the external miners are expected to get 20% of blocks and the amount would depend on the total hashrate as usual.

currently the external mining is getting 40% of blocks and we are investigating the reason why. I think just some transition issues as it is the weekend and I know some people believe in them still

It seems coinexchange.io does not believe in weekends and is providing realtime feedback on the fixes. Thanks to him, I was able to get a quick turnaround for this fix. Often getting test feedback is the bottleneck to fixing an issue. If a lot of time passes from when I code a fix to find the result, I can spend a lot of time just remembering all the issues about it.

More feedback from coinexchange.io

We realized that you need to recreate a wallet.dat with just the privkeys and resync the change IF you are changing -exchange mode.

The reason is that all prior transactions will have slightly different values when -exchange mode is changed, so wallet conflict city. Have to run the entire tx history for a wallet using the same -exchange mode

Iguana Desktop Application 0.1.4 released!

It is a better version than previous betas, but as always still be cautious, as this still might have unknown bugs. The SuperNET Team is YET testing this beta. Once we get the signal, this may go as the main release. But, until then, please be cautious using your funds with this pre-beta wallet.

Always make sure to backup your wallet seed and privkeys.

................

@KomodoPlatform

Having had my payout request processed, all I've got so far is my wallet seed- i.e. the 12 word passphrase that was generated on the ICO site (https://ico.komodoplatform.com/)

presumably I get my privkeys when I install/run the wallet

also I assume that having installed the wallet (Basilisk or full mode) there's a facility for importing your seed so that your kmd balance shows up on your wallet.

correct?

Apologies for the basic questions and if they've been answered elsewhere

Thanks in advance Smiley

Notice to exchanges only:
(If you are not running komodod for an exchange, ignore this post)

The following is a suggested way for exchanges to switch from not having -exchange set to having -exchange set. If you never ran komodod without -exchange, then there is no need for this migration method

To change modes:
a) backup all privkeys (launch komodod with -exportdir=<path> and dumpwallet)
b) start a totally new sync including wallet.dat, launch with same exportdir
c) stop it before it gets too far and import all the privkeys from a) using komodo-cli importwallet filename
d) resume sync till it gets to chaintip

For example:
./komodod -exportdir=/tmp &
./komodo-cli dumpwallet example
./komodo-cli stop
mv ~/.komodo ~/.komodo.old && mkdir ~/.komodo && cp ~/.komodo.old/komodo.conf ~/.komodo.old/peers.dat ~/.komodo
./komodod -exchange -exportdir=/tmp &
./komodo-cli importwallet /tmp/example

The above process will migrate all privkeys from the old regime of no -exchange to the new one with -exchange.

coinexchange.io is helping to validate this process works as expected. Thanks to him for all the help in getting this fix and migration process validated

I have a question regarding REVS.  I saw my REVS balance on the ICO site shortly after the coin distribution, but now I see them listed as KMD.  I installed Iguana, but I only see my KMD there.  How do I access my REVS?

The balance on the top used to read REVS but now shows KMD
