It will be very important to have a good ranking in the coming months for both those who will face the playoffs and when there will be draws for the 2018 world cup.
Every friendly, qualifying match, and confederations cup will be important for having an advantage in the draws.

Thanks for the rankings, but like always, the ranks seem wrong in the top 5 are 4 south american teams, don’t get me wrong that is the strongest region after Europe but 4 that seems a stretch to me, I don't care how well Chile and Colombia are playing they do not deserve a spot in the top 5.

I am currently wondering what the Argentine national has done to be given such a top spot in the Fifa Ranking, this is a team without any major trophy in a very long time. I understand Brazil be top dog since they are the first team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup next year.

Argentina comes from some victories, including over Brazil

in my view FIFA rank is not really an effect for the teams itself because it all depends still their efforts and their performance when they through qualification matches and some teams which is you mentioned above still struggled and having trouble because their matches results doesn't so good such as Peru that if i'm not mistaken that they have failed went to world cup 2018 even Argentina as the team who had good ranking must facing playoff match

Italy will hardly beat Spain at the Bernabeu.
Anyway I'm convinced that both teams will qualify for the World Cup. Historically, they are 2 of the strongest teams and it would be a shame not to see Italy or Spain at the World Cup.
Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, England and Uruguay have won at least 1 world cup and should always participate.

the cause why first positions belongs to Germany because they're won the most important tournaments such as FIFA world cup and confederations cup so it can be boost their position and besides Germany i think Portugal also had good positions although they didn't win confederations cup but they had good positions since won EURO Cup

Brazil has the best footballers in the world, not surprised to see them at the top as always. Argentina is great too, Maradona is a legend. France and Spain should be higher, Italy and Endland as well. Chile got some amazing agressive games that always puts their opponents in thought situations.

it is confirmed that after defeat Australia 2-0 Japan is the first team who officially will play on the world cup 2018 but since in the beginning of qualifications matches indeed Japan is one of the favourite team in asia who able play for world cup so i'm not really surprised for that
