I personally would only hold a large amount in bitcoin for long term. I would only put small amounts into altcoins because I would guess that they are less likely to last for the long run.

agree with you I prefer to hold large quantities of bitcoin compared to hold altcoin, hold bitcoin much safer for fluctuations in price, many altcoin that are only good at the beginning after that they can't survive, hold altcoin just for short time sell when the price is up, but not for bitcoin even the price go down now but the price will go up again just wait for a moment

I think Doge and Dash haven't real potential like Bitcoin actually. Its always better to focus with earning Bitcoin and holding it as the price is rising and its expected that it will increase more on the future.

From the altcoins Op mentioned only Dash has potential to be used as speculative coin. I am afraid that Doge's times are over.

None of those alt coins are worth trading for long term though they are trusted in the markets in a large extent, but still we cannot invest in them and keep them for too long as they are not as strong as bitcoin so they can drop their price anytime.

I think its more good and useful if you are stay in bitcoin than other altcoin..
Its more safe to stay in bitcoin and you can make more profit if you are just using your bitcoin to hold for a long time and sell them in the right time..

None of those alt coins are worth trading for long term though they are trusted in the markets in a large extent, but still we cannot invest in them and keep them for too long as they are not as strong as bitcoin so they can drop their price anytime.

Maybe you could consider some alts  but dont focus or invest too much on it, its better  to  focus on bitcoin as  you said  bitcoin is  strong  and  its the most   main crypto that  being used today. Well there are  potential alts  which we could also consider  but  the  risk on  those  coins are still their and also to bitcoin.

I think if anyone is planning to invest in any altcoin at this stage then I think he should go for etc,eth and xmr as this are the coins which will never disappear with an blink of an eye and will survive in long run.

Just to echo what quite a few people have already stated, HODL your Bitcoin for the long term and I think 90% is a nice safe figure.

As for Alt coins with a possible future I think ETH looks really strong. I'm waiting on zCash (release 28-10-16), and am currently trying to understand how to mine it.

i hope so but i have been hearing somewhat similar news about something bursting/breaking/exploding/... and bitcoin price going to the moon but it never happens.

and the next day you hear another fiat is going to go down but it doesn't happen either!
