From Slack, yesterday evening:

Cryptox is down, problem is known, not conected to the Byteball. Probable up tomorrow at 10:00 CET. Too many registrations, just need to solve it with dev.

I guess you once had the full wallet installed, which needs a very long time to sync. If you have no coins in your wallet, you can do a fresh install of a 'light' wallet by deleting your Byteball folder in userdata:

Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\byteball
MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/byteball
Linux: ~/.config/byteball

Chat is encrypted client side and shared with the peer through the hub. It can be decrypted only by the recipient so the hub merely relays the message which isn't stored on the DAG. Blackbytes works in pretty much the same way, only a hash of the transaction is posted to the DAG. As of version 2.3, a blackbytes transaction can be sent including the entire coin history in an encrypted file, too.

Network issues over the weekend and questions about Steem attestations
https://medium.com/byteball/network-issues-over-the-weekend-and-questions-about-steem-attestations-99935d9a3efd

As you may know the Byteball network experienced issues July 13–15. Clearly the timing was not great given the surge in new users following the Steem release made on July 12.
The good news is these have been fixed. Technical details on what happened can be found towards the bottom of this article. But first, here are some resources for the many new users we have attracted from the Steem community.

Why are you all using medium.com instead of steemit.com for writing blog posts? It's high time to switch.

It's like appealing to Linux users and publicly demonstrating the use of Windows.

Hi,

I run a simulation on how Byteball scales in terms of fees collected by witnesses and results are mind boggling:

- if Byteball is ever to scale to the so called "Visa level" (2000 tps) and accordingly the market cap reaches $1T (just ten times the current Bitcoin market cap) monthly fees collected by 1 witness will reach $216,000,000.

This does not seem to be sustainable. Running a witness (on a single server type PC machine) would become as profitable as one of the top 10 biggest corporations in the world.

I run a simulation on how Byteball scales in terms of fees collected by witnesses and results are mind boggling:
So you figured out that if 1 GB goes up 1 million percent, and the number of transactions goes up 100000%, the revenue per witness goes up 1000000000%?
Without checking the rest of your calculations, if you think you can store a database that increases with 86.4 GB per day on a single server type PC, you're going to be disappointed. The witnesses will also need to send massive amounts of data to thousands of clients per second.

You must be kidding.

86,4 GB per day is 31,5 TB per year.

You can see 100TB disk here right now: https://www.zdnet.com/article/worlds-largest-ssd-hits-100tb/

In a few years this will be a standard pc disc. With $2B in profit a year I think you can afford one or two and stack it into how many machines? Let me calculate... one.
