deepbit got its turn, now it's slush's pool, and possibly btcguild.

I wish more people mined with Eligius. I like the fact that they pay from block generation but the has rate is a bit on the low side. It would be nice if  was higher to lower the variance as much as possible.

Where do these mining pool pie charts come from?

I've seen a few posted, so they must be coming from a website, but I don't know what one.

Thanks!

Yeah I like/liked? slush too. Although my account with that pool just got hacked 10 min ago. I changed the password and still someone managed to changer the payout address. Password was ultra secure randomly generated.

I guess every pool has its problems.

Right now I'm mining with Eligius until I figure out what the heck happened on slush.

That's the best part of St. Eligius - no stupid registration, no password data, no compromise, no sending my email and personal data to random people on the internets......

I can paste my St. Eligius connection string on a billboard and the worst you can do is contribute to me. Smiley

yeah sounds great, but I am hesitant right now with the 6 hour blocks possibility...

also I don't want 1 BTC payout limit, maybe it's ok when you get several BTC per day but for me it's too big limitation.

Slush's pool does not run over HTTPS. I would be surprised if someone is sniffing my traffic, but I suppose that is theoretically possible. I'm waiting for slush to respond, maybe he can give me some clue as to what IP logged into my account changed the payout address. This way I can perhaps tell who or what might/may be sniffing packets.

Yep good point. For some smaller miners the 1 BTC payout limit can be annoying and also the long round duration as well. It would not be so bad if more people were to switch over to this pool. If we can get 500 gigahashes it would be nice.

Slush's pool does not run over HTTPS.
you can use https but you have to override its certificate. I don't know about your browser but Firefox allows this.

If I were you I'd connect through https and change the password, see if that stops address changes.

Yep I changed it once again and it's been stable thus far, but granted I had no miners running so whoever broke in no longer has any incentive to change the address. Right now slush is getting DDoS'ed so once the website is back up I will log in via SSL and change the password again just to be on the safe side. Slush is also going to look into what happened. If he discovers that the fault lies with his site I hope he would be so kind as to refund the lost 3.99 BTC.

It may also be a keylogger. Install a firewall to watch for suspicious connections and scan for viruses.

Hmm if it was a keylogger you'd figure it would go after something more important. Why wouldn't such a malicious program go after my wallet.dat file instead? I dunno I have some doubts that it's a keylogger but I'm going to run a bunch of anti virus scans (f-secure, bitdefender, etc) and maybe spybot & malwarebytes.

I'm surprised people are still sticking with deepbit when it has such a high fee. Is there something about it I'm missing?

Deepbit is the best site there is and definitely when you are new. Deepbit is the only site that is easy enough to start with.
They explain what you need to do and a lot of youtube video's about setting up mining are using deepbit to register.

Thats may be true, but its just newbie-friendly, that doesnt mean its the best. Its good for being introduced maybe, but in like 1 week or 2 your ready to go and explore other better pools
