I have noticed that there is a lack of knowledge about how Bitcoins are being, specifically how much Bitcoin users spend on goods and services. I have made a survey that asks a few questions about why users are purchasing Bitcoins, although I am especially curious how many goods and services they buy.

Insights into these questions can hopefully lead to a more stable exchange, because the Bitcoin 'economy' can be measured.

Last year's results were quite interesting. I estimated that users had bought $28 million in goods and services, which actually jived pretty well with a security analysts estimate of the amount of illegal goods bought through SilkRoad.

Take the survey here!

P.S. I'm not affiliated with the Twitter or Wordpress accounts that have the same as my username. That's just a coincidence.

according to the article above just over $20 mill goes through silk road a year.

yet going by http://blockchain.info/stats

$26mill of bitcoin transactions went around the world IN ONE DAY!!

so please media people dont think silk road is the main use of bitcoin.. its just 1 out of over 365 uses. if you just base it on the cash volume moving around.

but if you base it on the number of websites theres THOUSANDS accepting bitcoin. bitpay have atleast 2k businesses on their books, along with other webstores with their own personal carts and methods of fiat conversion.

silk road to bitcoin is like what 'walking street' in phuket is to the Thailand baht.
silk road to bitcoin is like what the red light district of Amsterdam is to the EURO.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.

Completed the survey.  I noticed there was no securities section.  I think many bitcoin users like myself are not only using bitcoins for goods and services, but also investing our BTC in securities.  Might be worth adding that in the survey?

Survey needed a self employed section.
I would like to see something some info on how many bitcoin users there are around the world and how quickly it is growing.
