As I am new to the cryptocurrency world, This is my first post on bitcointalk and I would like to ask you all a huge favour! I am currently in my 3rd year at university and I am thinking about doing my dissertation on how Bitcoins work and if they can replace traditional fiat currencies. I have a basic understanding of Bitcoin but if there is anyone out there who could point me in the right direction in terms of academic research on Bitcoin or any other dissertations people have read that would be very helpful!
Thank you in advance for your help!

You should start to read some books on the subject, I read two books from my local library. You can check also on Amazon,

https://www.amazon.fr/Mastering-Bitcoin--Andreas-M-Antonopoulos/dp/1449374042/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1476812301&sr=8-3&keywords=bitcoin

Read the white paper and the abundant documentation on the internet. That's pretty much all you need to get a deep understanding of the code and how the system works.

looking for a signature campaign, dm me for that

I think the first step to do is to read Satoshi whitepaper on Bitcoin, it should give you better understand and be able to spot the necessary research questions you want to answer

This will definitely make for an interwsting read. If I were you I'd first ask your professor if writing about BTC is ok. If you do decide to write about it, you'd be in a much better position if you knew a lot about it and not just to a basic level. Good luck with the research! If you do decide to pursue this, I'd be very grateful if you don't mind sharing it with us after Smiley
