Quadruple Mining Machine (What could be possible?)

Hi there,

I was wondering (just for recreational use) if it's possible to build a system capable of:

• Dual GPU Mining
• CPU Mining
• HDD Mining

All at the SAME time 

This post it to clarify what could be possible and what would be needed to achieve this.

I would guess:

• 6x RX480
• Extreme Core I7 (or server processor)
• 64TB (8x 8TB HDD)
• 1500 Watt PSU (At least..)


Is it possible, or did anyone do this already?

HDD mining? there's only one coin I know of that uses this kind of PoW. i7 Extreme? those cost 1500$, and you will never ever ROI. and why would you need atleast 1500W?

I wouldn't waste money on CPU mining at all because it's not very profitable. Mostly because of the combination of botnets, FPGAs and because GPUs are generally much, much better at hashing and it's likely that most CPU coins are being mined with private GPU miners.

So it might take years before you get back your investment on the CPU alone - if you do at all.

But even with an i7 your config wouldn't use more than 1300 watts (assuming a maximum of 170W per RX480) so I wouldn't go above a 1500W PSU. I wouldn't go lower either. Maybe you could use 2 x 750W PSUs though if you're fine with it.

If you go for HDD mining my only suggestion is to stay away from WD Greens, at least until you know what head parking is and why that's an issue.

I guess the HDD's take a lot of power. The point isn't the ROI, i would never ROI on such a system.
I just want to know what's possible here.

it is possible. i allready own some server with gpus  so i mine monero with gpus and cpus and burst with hdds.

If you go for HDD mining my only suggestion is to stay away from WD Greens

And Seagate Barracuda 3TB as well, total crap.

HDs don't take much power - and that's been DROPPING over the years.

 I just wish Seacrap hadn't bought out WD years back, and that WD hadn't bought out HGST (the quality doesn't SEEM to have dropped on those YET, but I'm worried about a few years down the road).

xxcsu, that hash rate seems low for that CPU.  I have seen several benchmarks where 2nd and 3rd gen regular or K series are hashing 330-440 M/h on Monero.  I originally thought that since the benchmark source was dated (no newer CPUs or GPUs) that some kind of recent event may have resulted in reduced H/s on Monero, but when I plot my 2600K CPU against what is on this chart, it is actually pretty close to the range at about 125-150 H/s.

I'm curious if you have tried experimenting with things such as the # or cores option in MinerGate.  At least on my system, when I run it at what shows as 8 cores, I only get about 110-120 but if I reduce it to 4, I am in the 140-150 range, so a decent % better. I noticed your photo looks like you have all 16 (called cores but actually threads I believe) mining. So wondering if you have tried going with 8 to see if you get a similar bump.

I am about to build a system with an i7-6800k and expecting/hoping to get at least 500 H/s on XMR, but if my results are closer to what you are getting with a similar CPU, I might be in for a disappointment.  Luckily, I got it for free so if it's really only going to hash about 300, I will probably re-purpose it to build my next personal PC and opt for a much cheaper CPU for mining.

if you are goin to build a system for cpu mining for XMR  amd cpus better than intel (considering the price to hashrate of course)
especially i am speaking about Opteron cpus  as quad socket systems there are WAY CHEAPER than quadcore xeon producing some neats hashrates. Else give a glance at xeon E5 series avoid super duper I7 extreme...

@GabryRox I have an i7-6800k @ 4.2 Ghz and I was curious to see its speed and I only get 215 H/s with Wolf0's miner. Slightly less with Minergate.

Never played with the cores option in Minergate , will try and post result . When i created that screenshot minergate was running on my pc for XMR and the same time Claymores Dual Miner for my MSI RX 480 GAMING 8GB with modded bios ,it was hashing with 30.5 MH/s

2MB of L3 cache/ thread so -t 3 for i5 and -t 4 for i7.

Joblo has an excellent opensource cpu miner, claymore has a cpu miner too.

Some may find it profitable...

Or you can buy a $80 second hand 7950 and mine XMR at 500h/s.

2 month ROI instead of 10 years.

If you already have the I5/I7/etc makes sense to use them - but if you don't, consider you can mine with a GTX 750ti at ballpark 240h/s using HALF the electric for ballpark $100 *NEW* cost.


That 7950 is going to eat a LOT of electric, you won't see 2 month ROI on it. 4 perhaps - which would still be better than paying too much for a high-end CPU to mine on.

I really loved my 750ti's and 7950/7970's but I have a feeling that OP is not going to invest to them.

Everyone should try what quadcore can do with right config&miner.

That CPU at stock clocks shows a bit more - about 510 H/s, due to large cache. Though ROI is still bad, of course

That 510 H/s is more in line with what I had roughly calculated based on a few various benchmarks, but I am very curious... did you find that number on a site somewhere?  I am thinking my 6800k might be in the same ballpark... 1 generation newer, faster MHz, but of course, 2 less cores so we will see.
