As per title. Want to burn some 1080p films to blurays as my smart TV has trouble playing them directly for some annoying reason (though if anyone knows how to sort that I won't need to burn them in the first place).

Buy a Panasonic TV with SD card reader
Who burn today discs???

I use to film Ultra HD videos, but i check them only on PC.

Quote
trouble playing them directly

Are You about Video from a Camera or about a Film?
I understand the problem not clear.

You have some films on 1080p on Your PC Hard Disk and will play them on "Big TV screen"?

The "normal way" is a portatile Hard Disk with player.

do you need to author the blurays as well or are they ready to burn?

Imgburn is an oldie but a goldie and it'll burn blu rays. i'm not sure about the authoring part.

I find it really weird that you have plenty of free burning options on pc for blu ray, but if you actually wanna watch on your computer you're pretty screwed.

No TVs seem to be able to play them properly without converting them to some reduced format but I'm not going to buy a new TV just to do so. The films are downloaded blu ray mkv rips and played via usb stick.

Who burn today discs???

Well what other option do I have?

I just need to burn the files to make them playable by a blu ray player.

Make sure you're using a high-speed USB stick (or a Class 6 or better SD card if you want to take that option, and note that you don't need a new TV, just a high-speed USB adaptor). Full-speed USB just doesn't have enough bandwidth to play HD video.

Thanks. I have the 128gb version of this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Ultra-Dual-Flash-Drive/dp/B010Q58IMA

Do you recommend any particular stick? I might try get a small ssd drive if it's the speed as you say. The files play but are very choppy which makes them unwatchable ie Sicario.2015.BDRip.x264-SPARKS will play perfect but
Sicario.2015.1080p.BluRay.x264-SPARKS won't.

That's more than adequate, and SanDisk is one of the better manufacturers. I think we can rule out the USB stick.

I might try get a small ssd drive if it's the speed as you say. The files play but are very choppy which makes them unwatchable
That definitely sounds like insufficient bandwidth, though if it's not the USB stick that just raises further questions. Does this "smart" TV not even support high-speed USB? Or is it just unable to decompress HD video? It may well only be designed to handle YouTube videos, with the expectation that all HD content will come from an external device. An SSD won't help if that's the case.

The easiest way to find out is to see if your USB stick works with a digital media player connected to a dumb TV. If so, I've got some bad news about your TV's intelligence.
