1: Try and get the latest source or, failing that, the binaries.

2: See if anyone is running a node/check the last known node list.

3: If the network is not active, and you cannot sync or source a blockchain or contact any possible users, you will have to mine a new genesis block and start with two nodes. You need the source to do this and it wouldn't harm to change the ports etc to avoid collisions. Frankly, I would fork a modern coin and just use the old name and then relaunch. No current userbase so make a relaunch ann on bitcointalk.

4: If the network is active and you manage to sync - there must be some sort of userbase - make an Ann and offer to take over. Update the checkpoints and then release a new version to your new and loyal userbase of bag holders!

Its more complicated and will be quite frustrating to start over dead coin mainly it will be hard to find active nodes. Better to copy source code and launch own cloned version with different name or with different algo.

I have seen some projects being revived from death, you need to hire good coders first of all, offer something decent or catchy, good marketing, and do your best to get it on the exchanges.

Why do bother with a dead coin ? most members of community will not touch it ! And again i think is just waste of time & money!

this is the exact feeling i have,do not bother to rejuvenate a dead brand,no matter how much money you spend on it,most people will stay away from it,this has to be the cardinal rule of business,if you find your business or brand deteriorate do the best you can to make it better or start a new project,do not ever try to spend more time when it is fully dead.

Yes even if it was the exact same coin, it would be better to start fresh with a new name,
unless you were able to rally some support and get enough people behind you.

You would need a lot of users who really trust what you are doing and spend time to build a community,
otherwise you are probably just better off with a re-branding.

Chances are good that the code is on Github. You could fork it or clone it.

If you are asking this question then you are probably better off not trying. Launching or relaunching a coin takes a lot of effort and specific skills. If you do not know these things you will have a very steep uphill climb ahead of you.

Contact the dev.. send a PM etc.
Or look for an ANN topic and see others that were helping out with it and contact them.
First thing to do is TRY and get a hold of the person who made it.. they may be able to help in various ways.

@PieCoin
Yup.. true.

Better know how to fix it when it goes tits up and people are bitching.

It might be a fresh start but the content is still the same (or changed slightly, so it is rather insignificant).
If coins failed before what make people think it can be resurrected and this time it will be successful?
