any differences from bitcoin?
Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

So I am guessing this is still SHA256 hash alg?

If so, uber fail on Maria's part.

ASICs will destroy this chain.
Because ASICs are totally going to stop mining BTC and mine some useless coin..

BTW, ASIC-proof is a bad thing.

1. I can see someone pointing an asic for 24 hours and killing this coin.

2. Who said ASIC-proof was the issue at hand? LTC isnt ASIC-proof.

Would be quite easy actually but why do it?

LTC is ASIC-proof from all the current ASICs.

I've had better luck since switching from guiminer to DiabloMiner.

Also the difficulty retargets every 2016 blocks.

Download and run Bytecoin at least once at let it sync then close Bytecoin-qt.

Open Notepad++ and create a new file called Bytecoin.conf in your %appdir%/Bytecoin directory.

add

rpcuser=username
rpcpassword=password
rpcport=9778 (or 4 random numbers that don't conflict with other coin networks you might be using)
server=1

Save

Right click bytecoin-qt and click 'create shortcut' right click the short cut and click properties

add " -rpcuser=username -rpcpassword=password" to the end of target

You should have something like.

"*:\Directory\bytecoin-qt.exe" -rpcuser=username -rpcpassword=password

Run this new shortcut

As I understand, this shortcut should start as SERVER, but it opens standard client wallet app... So what am I missing?

You can add a -server flag to the shortcut to force it into server mode at runtime.

thought i'd try solo mining this using GUIminer on windows for first time, get to the point where i see

Listener for "Default": localhost:9778 02/04/2013 20:56:31, using JSON-RPC (no stratum header)

In the GUIminer console, not sure if its mining ok, does it usually sit like that with no further messages on console ?

( only used to pool mining with much more ouput... )

Try Diablominer and report back.

I had that error at first too..

It could be your firewall blocking, or passwd not correct somewhere etc..

check this howto also - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=123564

Are you using the right port?

You can add a -server flag to the shortcut to force it into server mode at runtime.

That didn't help... If I omit pass/login, it complains about it... but when all is correctly set, just basic wallet opens.

Could someone spend some bytecoins, please? I'll program a little casino (dice play) website for this new coin but can't mine on the server atm. I think my website requires at least 100 ByteCoins.

Seems to have trouble too, running it on cmnd line with user and pass, and port options, it starts, I get a windows error regarding display driver stopped working, driver seems to recover again ( I figure thats where the miner is hitting the GPU ), and then it just sits there output wise, showing the mhash, accept etc.. all 0's...
