So after detain the btc of the users of bitcoinica, Mtgox are already prepared to detain the ltc. Good job. Scamming in the bitcoin world is just not enough for Mtgox, and they just want to put their tentacles into the  alternative cryptocurrencies.

HuhHuh What does that mean?

Once upon a time, There is an exchange named Bitcoinica. Bitcoinica deposit its money on Mtgox. After the database loss in a hack, Mtgox refuse to return the money and the account information to the liquidator of Bitcoinica, which is extremely important for the Bitcoinica user to get their money back and claim their right in the liquidation process. Mtgox sits on other people's money, refuse to return it. That's what does Mtgox did.

Don't use Mtgox service. Don't trust this scamming exchange.

I know about this story, Bitcoinica still owes me money as well. But this doesn't really have anything to do with confirming the rumor that MtGox will start trading LTC.

It confirms somehow. Open another pair of currency will give more chance for Mtgox to steal from its users. There will be some other careless LTC exchange site use Mtgox as a bank, then, Mtgox can earn money! So I bet that Mtgox will open the LTC trading service.

from what I heard, rumor has it on april 1st saying on IRC they are in progress of supporting LTC. It's quite convincing coz they are about to sell US btc customers to coinlab and need to cling on some other coins. One of the reason LTC has yet to take off is because the majority of trade happens on that shady exchange.

There were so many crazy stories going around on April 1st. Hard to figure out what was going on.

1. LTC on Gox
2. DPR to introduce LTC to SR
3. New cryptocurrency launched Bytecoin
4. BFL ships an ASIC

LTC broke one dollar before this news surfaced. And the day before it was 85 cents. People keep forgetting that lol.

No doubt though the gox news added a LOT of momentum after it broke a dollar.

True, but I can understand they won't support everyone out of the gate like that.

But it should mean that BTC-E should support TRC because GOX will take a huge chunk out of BTC-E's LTC trading profits. They will (or should) add TRC which also has significant volume.

Do people actually think namecoin is going to get put up on mtgox just because of this? I mean, it doesn't even have it's own silk road, it's too primitive to be put up on MTGOX.  Would it even survive if that happened?  Can a cryptocoin network be 'crashed'?

Maybe litecoin will still be put up, but I doubt namecoin will... anytime soon at least.  And also Mtgox are taking a long time to get together with coinbase, so they are slow, so it could be a while before litecoin is even adopted, giving plenty of time for the price to go down.

I personally think namecoin is too 'technical' for the masses ever to adopt in large numbers. 'A decentralised dns system acting as money? Wut?' But I am wrong I am wrong and more power to namecoin and if succeeds it's a good thing for alt currencies.

+1 - Lolcopter!

This is so very true. I've spent the last few months explaining cryptocurrencies to a lot of people, so many don't get it.

The best was a family member who is very senior finance manager in one of the largest companies in the world. I was explaining how the innovation with cryptocurrencies is the relative ordering or time stamping of transaction in blocks so as to be able to prove when transactions occurred relative to each other and therefore many other applications such as for voting systems and DNS registration. His answer was simply "Why would you want to do that?" and then strongly warned off touching any cryptocurrencies.

Most people don’t get abstractions, let alone abstractions of abstractions. I can't live without them.

People will be actively trading namecoin, litecoin, obamacoin, etc, on Ripple before MtGox supports it.

I asked myself on April 2nd and they still confirmed on Twitter.

Proof: https://twitter.com/MtGox/status/319143280157794305

Plus the source code
Plus the IRC channel announcement

Yes, Mt. Gox. is set to trade LTC soon, better buy before it sky-rockets. It is actually out-performing bitcoin in terms of growth percentage. The true way to see Litecoin is as a good insurance in case some major flaw/attack happens on the bitcoin.

I'm very bullish on this one, it think it has a great future as a faster crypto-currency (it can easily co-exits with bitcoin and serve other purposes). I have first bought at 0.0055 and considered that late and the time. Now I'm happy. I predict 20$+ once it is fully integrated in the Gox.

There are so many new currencies springing up these days its not possible for someone working a fulltime job to keep up.  Seeing that litecoin may be the second cryptocurrency to trade on Mt.Gox does seem to imply that Ltc is second in line to bitcoin.  And precisely why I chose to pick some up.

I wonder how many decentralized cryptocurrencies will be alive in a few years.  5, 10, 100+?

Nobody really knows I expect , and which coin that becomes mainstream could really be any of them, despite the arguments going back and forth on here.

I initially dismissed the mt gox LTC - until asking mt gox myself yesterday, from their reply its pretty clear they are going to add LTC at some point at the very least and others. Don't forget mt gox isn't Bitcoin and neither is Bitcoin mt gox also I might add the Bitcoin forum isn't Bitcoin either. An exchange is just that an exchange a forum a forum . if your unsure that mt gox are considering LTC just raise a support ticket and ask them I got the reply below in 5mins or so. Anyway just because mt gox offer LTC Bitcoin holders will be pleased to note buying Litecoin us not mandatory it simply a choice your free to take or leave.

Yup, just 5 months into training and loving it, that's for another forum though I guess.

Anyone know what other currencies Mt.Gox may add?? Would be nice to get a jump on the news.

Lol... um, ok....

Again I'm in my mid-30's and used WU once in my life to buy a logo from a person in Albania.  I can do that by myself with BTC without the help of western union.

I still don't get it.

I very much doubt many people in their teens and twenties have ever used western union or will much less ever need to.

All of the "western unions" will soon go the way of snail mail and  fax, which all became obsolete due to email.
Companies can't operate without email now. So in a few years Immigrants can't operate without some sort of bit coin.

Agreed the only reason Western Union is considering this is to stay relevant.  They are no longer needed.  Period.

Litecoin to $20 this month? Mt. Gox is supposed to implement by April 20th

Litecoin outperforms bitcoin 5 to 1? (It's already performed above that but can it keep the increase intact?)

Yup, I'm hoarding PPC and IXC too.

Ixcoin, together with Namecoin, is very solid now it is merge-mined with BTC / NMC.
Value doesn't show that yet, so I hoard.

That isn't the official announcement. But soon is indeed further confirmation. And I said before, when they support is irrelevant, its IF they do. And right now, no reason to believe they won't.

Sure, mtgox will support LTC and NMC, add a few thousand users, and what will happen to the server? They can barely support BTC without being down or lagging severely.

Why does everyone assume that is an non fixable and permanent issue? Those issue happened a few times, all after very very sharp increase of bitcoin activity.

Let's FUD big time about shit that's easy to fix and of pretty low relevance (since they always get fixed)

Ok, so you think mtgox will add on a whole sets of other problem by introducing LTC, while the current problem is still festering?

They have the schedule to make it fast by 17th. I believe it will be 20 times+ faster than now.

Tell that to the 18 minute trade lag on mtgox as of right now.
My statement still stands as its exactly what I'm saying. A problem now does not warrant a problem later and is currently being fixed.

Ok, so you think mtgox will add on a whole sets of other problem by introducing LTC, while the current problem is still festering?
I have never said anything about LTC being added before lag issues are resolved. My only stand on LTC is that the CEO has said too much confirming the support to not support it. I have never dipped my foot saying when.

But put words in my mouth all you want, its easy for me to dismiss what I didn't say.

Period.

What is Western Union considering?
