I don't know if this was asked on another thread. If so I wanted to clarify a lot of things about the topic and I would really like to keep it going.

Computation of Potential Activity
So what's the point of potential activity? I believe even if you have 10,000 potential activity if you don't post anything after getting that amount of potential activity, your activity rating will not go up. Am I right?

Hence, for example,

1st two week period: 300 quality posts. The estimator assessed my account with 14 activity and 286 potential activity.
2nd two week period: I don't post anything.

Will my account
a. Remain 14 activity and 286 potential activity.
b. 28 activity and 272 potential activity/
C. 14 activity and lower potential activity.

I don't really get potential activity.


Value of potential activity

I've been reading threads about selling accounts. People value potential activity a lot. My question is that why do they value it that much? I saw one selling a newbie account with 300 potential activity (how is that possible even?). Also, the value of having high potential activity , even if it's a newbie account, significantly raises the value of the account.

That is right. Activity is calculated this way to show how old your account is and how active you were in 2 week periods (period for activity update)

I don't really get potential activity.

Potential activity means it is "potential". So you don't get anything extra if you post extra. Every 2 weeks you can only get 14 activity no matter how many posts you make as long as it is not 0.

e.g.
1st week: you make 300 posts : Activity= 14 P.Activity=0
or
1st week: you make 3 posts : Activity= 3 P.Activity=11

Value of potential activity

This is only for account farmers/traders. They buy these cheap spam the forum (risk getting banned) and then sell higher!

1 - if you make 300 posts during the first 14 day period that you create your account, there is a very high chance that you will get banned.

2 - If for example you make 50 posts in the first 14 day activity period that you create your account, then you will have 50 posts, 14 activity and 0 potential activity. If during the next 14 day activity period, you make one additional post, then you will have 51 posts, 28 activity and 0 potential activity.

3 - If you make 4 posts in the first 14 day activity period that you create your account, then you will have 4 posts, 4 activity and 11 potential activity. If during the next 14 day activity period, you make one additional post, then you will have 5 posts, 5 activity and 23 potential activity. If however, if all of your posts made during an activity period are deleted (including because the threads you posted in are trash-canned), then you will lose out on that activity.

4 - Also note that the 14 day activity periods do not start when you create your account, nor when you make your first post, but rather are the same for everyone. There is a thread somewhere in Meta that has a spreadsheet of when all the activity periods start.

For example, I have an account with the following stats:

Activity: 14
Potential Activity: 500

Does this mean, even in the two week period, I can get 500 activity (assuming I don't get banned for spamming) in that two week period? So if I do post 500 posts in that two week period, I would get 514 activity?

Will I be a Hero member once I finished posting that 500?

Yes. If you have 500 potential activity then it only takes 480 to become Hero. However, it's not possible for a Newbie to have potential activity so high because you will have needed to have posted in more than 30 periods to have such potential activity thus making you a Junior.

This is not possible. If you have 14 activity and have potential activity that means that you have no more then 14 posts and if you made one post each activity period then you will have a total of a maximum 196 activity including potential and actual activity.
