A ponzi is a scam just like a bmw is a car. Ponzi is the type of scam. Saying "It's a ponzi not a scam" Is something the scammer would tell you to try earn trust by him admitting it is a ponzi and you can make or lose money as a ponzi goes but this does not excuse the simple fact that a scam is a scam and a way to rip people off or plain steal from them through lies and deception.

See the late great Bernie Madoff and you will know exactly what a ponzi is, now he rots in jail until for 150 years and has forfeited 17 billion dollars and his other family members have killed themselves.  A ponzi is just a type of investment it is not a scam until it closes down without warning or giving a refund.  Normally ponzi's do scam but if the returns aren't too crazy they can last for years.  Madoff's ponzi just followed the stock market so it went up and down which allowed it to live much longer than traditional ponzi's which just guarantee a set return.
