Yes bitcoin jumped high during this night. Honestly I didn't expected that bitcoin will move away from it's frozen point around 620$. But it happen and I wander why? There are many opinions here why it could happen and i don't know the real reasons of bitcoin's price changing. Hope it will just continue to grow and not come back on it's previouse price. I think it's a big step to bitcoin today. after so long time with stetable price.

Before I sleep last night the price was just below 660, and now it is above 680. It even hit 690 at one point. It this a legit price increase or is it just a pump for the holiday? Why does bitcoin price seems to pump around this time of the year?
Actually im wondering the same thing too when the bitcoin price moves too fast in previous days even it moves $10 on a single night, same to your situation but i do some research regarding on the new and i found out with this statement from news.( " Almost one million bitcoins, worth more than half a billion dollars, are currently stuck in no man’s land as the network struggles to meet rising demand from China. ) So this means Huge demands from china do have a major impact on this price increase which we could say they manage to bought million of bitcoin. |

If there is a legit demand of bitcoin then this is not a pump but the actual value of bitcoin. From the qouted info, it only means that more and more people are jumping bitcoin train this 2016. More demand means more buy pressure, if this pressure started to buy agressively then there will be an increase of price that might create a bubble that can be sustain because of the normal growth of bitcoin price. |

I think is because peoples, that want to sell Bitcoins, transactions are stuck. If they cant sell then price raises since those that can buy can still easily buy on exchanges. Those that want to sell cant move their BTC to exchanges. |

May be we should start to think this big pumps in late months every year as cristmas pumps  Actually i think this recent pump is to get above before bitfinex hack price range which is above $700. Market was dumped hardly when finex got hacked due to fear of getting market flooded with hacked bitcoin however due to strong buy support as well as no any bitcoin getting flooded over few months after hack to market. People sentiment seem to have changed and they are now trying to ride on next price rally. |

I have no idea is someone is pumping the bitcoin price, but I think that people are interested in bitcoin and are probably buying because lots of people including me think that bitcoin price will be much higher at the end of this year and beginning of the next year. |

Actually i think this recent pump is to get above before bitfinex hack price range which is above $700. Market was dumped hardly when finex got hacked due to fear of getting market flooded with hacked bitcoin however due to strong buy support as well as no any bitcoin getting flooded over few months after hack to market. People sentiment seem to have changed and they are now trying to ride on next price rally.
It's partially your typical Christmas pump. Around Jan/feb we'll see a dip then steady for a bit. It seems to be fairly consistent in that sense, probably because people are sending more bitcoins around this time of year and need to purchase more through exchanges! We're also getting a nice correction (may be an overcorrection from the bitfinex hack. I'm sure we'll see a small correction with these big rises in the next week. The affect of the halving is pushing it up

WAT? Where've you been, dood? Halving has had no EFFECT, except for the big runup to it. This current bull run--who knows what's driving it? Who knows what drives any of these price movements? Seems to be a nice, slow upward trend, and that would seem to bode well for sustainable gains. But then again, we could crash tomorrow. Hope all of y'all made a profit. |

Nobody is pumping, this move is the same move from like $10 to $11 back in 2012/13. Its the post halving climb getting ready for a larger move who knows when. |
