[PRE-ANN] Dwoin - Just Another Cryptocurrency

Hello,

This post is just to serve as a very early pre-announcement for the release of 'Dwoin' a new cryptocurrency.

Information is mostly provisional and subject to change.

Usecase

I intend to integrate Dwoin into the microblogging social network I am currently coding: dwable.com.

I have many ideas of what I would like to do with Dwoin including, hopefully, integrating it into other innovative platforms down the line.

However I would stress this is still nothing but a fun side-project at this time.

Inception

After a-lot of brainstorming and domain searching I came up with the name 'Dwoin'.

Dwoin is a combination of the recognisable 'Dw' from 'Dwable' and 'oin' from 'Coin'.

I was initially leaning to something completely separate from Dwable but Dwoin started to grow on me and fortunately the .com TLD was available to boot.

Specs

Specifications are still being decided.

There is an option right now where I will keep a very high % of all coins in existence. This would be to incentivise future projects in a way similar to XRP.

I also like the idea of having fixed supply although it does bring some challenges with it.

PoS is preferable over PoW.

I'm likely to outsource the creation of the coin to a reputable dev or service.

Distribution

There will be no ICO in the traditional sense. It is intended that most of any necessary finance and time will be provided by myself.

The initial publicly available supply will be released for free accross a number of different channels. Notably: Bitcointalk, Social Media & Dwable itself. The economic model for earning Dwoins on Dwable is still being decided on.

Additional supply may be sold into market or otc at anytime for any reason. However I intend to only sell in order to cover costs and for any reasonable profits. When preferable and/or possible trades can be made public before or after execution for transparency.

Extras

The language used might be a bit more blunt and carefully worded than in other ANN's this is because I want to ensure people understand the circumstances involved and for any potential legal reasons.

I don't want to put a date on anything just yet. When I have a reasonable estimate I will update. It will likely be in the region of weeks to months, if that helps.

Recent updates:

After a-lot of learning and hundreds of lines of jQuery later I have implemented a seamless client-side character checking & counting text field. This will also disable the post button upon excess of 150 characters and highlight any additional characters over that limit.

This was a-lot more complicated than first thought. So many little issues like copy and paste, other command/control functions, making it seamless (without delay) etc.

This update is yet to be applied accross all pages and on thread replies.

I still have a-lot left on my list so the work continues..

This is something I like in this project.  I will be watching this thread and will support the project when it materialized.  I also like the proposed concept of this thread.

Yes it's extremely similar to Twitter, especially right now as a base concept which you pointed out.

We've had some external interest as-well (outside of crypto) mainly from liberals interested in freedom of speech principles, fuelled by the US election for more direct Twitter alternatives/competition.

Yes not raising funds has the advantage of lowering demands whilst maintaining any expectations people might have. My only concern relating to this is the supply % reserved by myself. This is clearly a very important element to how Dwoin will, if it does, succeed.

Thanks the Dwable UI is still subject to tweaks and particularly the profile pages may be changed significantly.

A tipping bot of sorts will most definitely be included to allow easy transfer of Dwoins between users on Dwable. The further economic model, including incentivisation and monetisation strategy I'm still thinking hard about.

Unfortunately/fortunately Dwable is not decentralised nor was the intention for it to be. First and foremost I wanted something that could be legally compliant and I found the technology behind making it decentralised would be challenging and potentially limiting down the the road.

On that subject, I am a big fan of Stratis and have had discussions with Chris about utilising a side-chain to allow for a sort of hybrid feed where possible. That's a long way off right now though.

Recent updates:

Mainly just applied the previous updates post field changes to all pages and to Dwable reply threads.

I also fixed a few bugs/extras I found with it like:

- All white spaces were not going down a line (CSS fix).
- Added jQuery to delete content, disable post button and reset character count again when modal is closed on reply threads.
- Caret issues.
- Etc

A few other minor bug fixes as-well.

I had a look at a major user system upgrade but instead decided it would be more efficient just to pick features and backport them individually.

Technically duplicate is defined as an exact copy, which it isn't, nor is it technically a post but rather a quote. Likewise it is within the allowed frequency.

Since Dwable is a major part of Dwoin right now and the focus of development, I want to keep people informed. If the Mod's have a problem with this please let me know.

The end of the year was always the goal but I won't rush things. If they need more time, they need more time. I will however always strive to give SMART (the business acronym for those unaware) goals. But yes that would be lovely.

I am working from the end of November until Christmas but it's in IT so there should/might be room for overlap.

Distribution method still being decided on. It will be likely be heavily weighted to activity on Dwable.

I've made initial contact with a law firm in London to discuss legal implications on any proposed supply, distribution, policies etc.

I understand people might be keen to get earning Dwoin so I'll try and keep you posted as to any efforts you can do in the mean time.

Maybe you can also have like a premium package for business owners whereby they get say an X amount of advertising on the site for the businesses and websites? Maybe make it affiliate friendly as well so people can heavily promote and earn a commission in DWOINS? Just giving you an angle from an internet marketer's perspective.

Yes, pretty much.

Yes there will undoubtably be an advertising suite built in but that comes second to just getting the platform up and running from a users perspective. I agree of affiliate friendly and yes there will be that feature. The tricky bit comes in making sure it's not mis-used e.g. unique users only.

Notification alerts are here!

I have coded in a feature which will create a little red circle above your notification link in the header whenever you recieve a new notification. This will remain displayed as your browse accross different pages and reset when you visit the notifications page. It will display a number corrosponding to the number of notifications outstanding.

Other changes include minor CSS edits (you might need to 'hard' refresh for these to take effect).

Update on Dwable:

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is getting ready for the New Year!

I have been busy the last few days researching various things.

I have decided to significantly change the platforms design going forward.

Right now the back-end is very cluttered (if you could see it). This will help clean a few things up.

It will also help give the platform a more unique/modern look. I intend to integrate an additional sidebar navigation for larger displays.

I apologise for the lack of progress but I have been hampered as of late. I hope that after NY I will be able to sit down and dedicate myself to the project. As always I appreciate any support, especially those who have logged into the platform and expressed this

With regards to Dwoin, once Dwable is at the right place more details can/will be released.
