Hello,

Anyone interested in some Casascius coins?  I bought six coins a couple of years ago and I want to sell them now. I just wanted a few collectibles and never intended to get active in bitcoin.  So I am not familiar with buying and selling these coins.  I don't even have a bitcoin wallet.

I have three 1BTC silver Casascius coins still in the original case (never opened). They are fully funded. Hologram codes are 1Ag4rFXh, 1Ag4Sdi8, and 1Ag4s1Cn.

Also, I have three .5BTC brass coins ANACS graded MS65, MS65, and MS63.

As I mentioned, I am not actively involved with bitcoin. So I am hopeful to get US dollars and probably use an escrow company for both buyer and sellers sake. I am in Southern California (LA County), if that matters. It would be great to sell them in one lot. Again USD is preferred.

I saw an earlier post sell the silver coins (ANACS graded) for 3.5btc. Since mine are not graded, I would expect mine to go for less. But they are in the original case. 😀

Unfortunately I am a little technically challenged and can't seem to upload the photos from my iPhone. Since I am at work now (and need to work),  I will try to figure out how to upload the photos after I get the kids to bed tonight.

Thanks for reading my post!

These haven't gone for that price in a while.  It is important to look at the price of BTC at the time it was sold to determine the premium paid.

Unless you want to do transaction in person and get paid in US dollars, otherwise you would need to have  bitcoin wallet first. Escrow fund will send to your wallets.   Just use imgur.com to upload your pics of the coins. Good luck.

Many here avoid escrow companies. I would suggest using escrow with Ognasty.

Welcome to the forum! We all love Casascius coins, so you have come to the right place! Smiley

As others have suggested, please upload some pictures of your coins (along with a note with the current date and your forum username) to Imgur and make a post with the links. One of us will then show the images for you.

As for escrow, usually the seller and buyer would choose a mutually agreeable person on the forum to act as escrow in a deal - not a company. There are a number of people on this forum that are trusted to act as that third party - such as Blazed, OgNasty, and minerjones, to name a few. Nearly all deals made on this forum are in bitcoin, and not fiat currency such as US dollars, unless you are able to arrange a face to face meeting with a trusted forum user from your part of the USA.

If someone sends you a message asking you to meet for a face to face deal, make sure you do some due diligence to ensure they are legit. You have some valuable coins there, and you are new here - be wary of scammers.

Have you ever used a bitcoin wallet before? As this would likely be required for you to sell these (as this is how you will be paid). If you then wanted dollars, you would send those bitcoins to an exchange such as Circle or Coinbase for example, where you can cash out into US $. Bear in mind that registering with these entities requires AML/KYC checks - so you will have to prove your identity and link a bank account/debit card to cash out. It is a lot easier if you had all of this set up already.

May I ask how you obtained these coins? Did you buy them on this forum, direct from Mike Caldwell (Casascius), or did you use somewhere like eBay?

As for the values of these coins, here is a rough estimate.

Your Casascius All Silver 1 BTC coins are not worth 3.5 BTC in current market conditions unfortunately. Ungraded Silvers have been selling for around 2 BTC each lately, maybe a little less depending on the quality. Some high graded ones have even gone for less than that recently. 2 BTC is ~$1,430 as of the time of this post.

Your MS63/65/65 Casascius 2013 0.5 BTC Brass coins are worth around 0.7-0.75 BTC each, maybe a little more depending on a few factors. If those coins were graded by ANACS a good while ago, then they could potentially grade higher if sent back. This would increase the value of them slightly. A rough estimate of value for an ungraded 2013 Brass 0.5 BTC in US $ is around ~$500 - $550 each. Again, we need the pictures to give you a better idea of value, this is just a rough valuation.

All in all, you have around 8.1-8.5 BTC worth of value across your 6 coins - which is roughly $5,750-$6,000, for all of them. Getting cash is going to be hard, unless you put them on eBay.

If you know how to use a bitcoin wallet, this will be much easier for you. If you don't, selling your coins on this forum will be difficult, unless you find a trustworthy member in your area who will meet you and pay you cash for them.

Hope this post helped!

Looking forward to seeing the pictures Smiley

Cheers

Not to belabor the point as zepher said it well, but generally everyone on the forum deals in btc for sales with use of an escrow to hold the btc yntil item has been recieved.  If you are willing to go that route i have no doubt you can sell or auction them off here with success.  Good luck!

Are your silver coins the all-silver type or with a gold-plated rim and BTC?

I am willing to buy them for cash in the mail. I am not sure what escrow services you want, but if they are not forum based I am not interested. The prices you quoted are way too high. I will send you an offer if you agree to send first or use a forum escrow.

The 1Ag4's have gold plated rim + B - if I am not mistaken? OP should clarify.

P.S.
Vouch for Blazed - just be sure to check that is the real Blazed you are communicating with (user id = 134378).

Cryptography is one of the few things you can truly trust.

Hi All,

I bought the 3 silver coins from a guy on the east coast.  He had a good reputation in a couple of forums with people vouching for him, etc.  He was more worried about me since I had no history.  I was just looking for collectibles.  I gave him some assurances and we did the deal.  All went well.  They are beautiful coins.  He said he did not open the coins and got them direct from Mike Cadwell.  I believed him.  The silver coins have the gold plating.

The three graded brass coins came from a reputable coin dealer in New Jersey.  I was comfortable buying online from them.

So, Saturdays are crazy with my kids schedules.  I have to run out again to pickup and drop off kids at ballet rehearsals.  It's Nutcracker season.   I will try to figure our Imgur this evening.

I am open to using an escrow company/person from this forum.  Or, if someone has a good reputation and wants the whole lot, I may consider two smaller deals without escrow.  But, it depends on the buyer.    I don't want to figure out the btc wallet.  I am sure it is super easy.  But I find USD easy too.   Smiley

Thanks.

If you don't want to figure out the BTC wallet, and you still want to sell these on the forum, then your best bet is to deal with Blazed, who has commented above. Speak to him by PM, make a deal, post him the coins, and he will make you a cash payment in one form or another. I cannot think of anyone else on the forum who will give you $. I think all of us will vouch for Blazed.

Get us some pics later on, and shoot him a message. Sure you will be able to work something out!

I think minerjones could possibly help out as well for the BTC->USD?

I have PM'd you Smiley I should have read through the entire thread first though.

Another option is to find someone in your area who would be willing to meet up with you and pay cash for the coins.

I have a brother who lives in LA, but it is a big city, and logistically, it might be a challenge.  I'll shoot you a pm.
