Paid with credit card thankfully, ill get more  pics tonight and put up.  Do you prefer a pic of the ones full of bugs, or the dented one or the scratched ones, or the ones that didnt have any cables.  Lol, this is ridiculous. Will be calling bank tomorrow, done dealing with them.

I hope they can get more organized.

Remember they got a curveball from their GOV.  which had to hurt them.

but a lot of confusion has happened.

 They will get better.

Mine arrives Monday. This is less than encouraging. These were listed as 'New'.

For proper documentation pics showing the QR code and/or serial number on each one are a good idea. That will give a time frame of when they were built.

Directly, ja only Canaan would know.
However -- we can compare the numbers with miners from recent batches and should get a good idea where the offending ones are in the chain. Canaan had been releasing a new batch every month or less until this recent mess started.  Most recent ones I have are from my Aug-8th order and a mid-July order.

Were those at least wrapped in their usual heat-sealed plastic bags?

No, not wrapped in bags,(that parts sucks, because some of them have foam inside the machines now from rubbing in shipping, have to open to get foam out) cords not in the little bags either  (for the ones that came with cords), cords have dust all over them.  last miner i got like two months ago started with AMg3.  these start with AMS8.  so not sure what that tells me.  another one from two months ago is AM56.  so dont know how they even relate to each other.

Yeesh... Packing debris alone is one reason they are always shipped in bags. Something is not right...Doing miner burn-in for a week or so in the Canaan factory farm before releasing for packaging/shippment is one thing but *in my opinion* it is sounding like they were pulled from a much longer running and far dirtier operation. I'll look at mine for a date code. If Canaan did not ship like that then they better look again at their distributor...

If you also got some controller Pi's, what does the GUI Dashboard report for controller date? My latest one is 20170603 so it better not report earlier than that...

I don't think that would do anything considering it has gone through a distribution center for pallet breakdown.
Also maybe it was just some shitty employee, trading in his old gear when no one was looking... a lot of unknowns, have you emailed any of the support emails or contacted Steve Mosher through the forum for answers?

Let's hope the miners are properly gassed before shipping so those critters were dead before getting shipped out of China/HK.... International regs require it for bulk shipments at least into the USA. The US CBP will come down very hard with at a minimum fines and even possibly ban import for a time if those things were alive when they got here.

If the shipment of miner(s) is inspected by CBP and they see that, even if the critters are dead the shipment WILL BE SEIZED and most likely destroyed...

agreed.
That said, safe bet that since Canaan is providing full OEM warranty on these it also means the miners must remain in original packaging - especially the heat-sealed plastic wrapper - until in the hands of the end-user. That is only way to help prove the miners are not um, per-owned. Since so far it seems these were sans bags...

Once Canaan starts looking into this and comments it is going to be VERY interesting. Until they do is best to start minimizing speculation and finger-pointing until more is known.
But still

What previous action by Avalon would lead you to believe they will communicate?

This is a seriously messed up company that is throwing a couple bones to people to placate while sticking it in the rear end of a lot of others.

I personally spent about 4 hours trying to get through their computer systems on August 31, and managed to do so.

Never so much as a single email.

Now they say we are SOL.

What a lousy company you are avalon!

I feel this way as well, they got enough good publicity from us earlier users to attract the pallet orders and larger investments.
Now we get left in the dark for almost a month, and now get sent used miners, if you were lucky enough to order, and not get a cancellation.
Will be up to a respectable reseller to step in and maintain quality of the Canaan brand name for everyone else.

Nice,  I just got this email, Avalon still spinelessly not even apologizing to us 'small 'fish.  No direction at all to those orders in the system.

Steve, if you had training in communication and customer service, you need to ask for your money back.

"Serve the small miner" my ass.  If you cared one tiny bit you would have supplied your 'distributor' with a list of confirmed orders from us 'small indivudual's and served us before opening the website.

From our good buddy Steve:

Due to the surge in BTC value and interest in Bitcoin Mining our best efforts to keep the Avalon 741 in stock fell short. Global sales outside China are growing more rapidly than we ever imagined, and we expect this trend to continue in the future.

As we approach the end of 2017 and ready ourselves for the next year, we have instituted a few changes in our sales process that we hope will lead to a less bumpy and more predictable supply for you.

We will continue to serve the small individual miner, but instead of servicing these customers from our webshop at www.canaan.io we are directing these customers to distributors. Our first distributor in the US is up and running at http://canaan-creative.acemlnc.com/lt.php?s=a418561c03e339409796c5ad26d5d47e&i=5A48A4A25 In the future we will add and annouce others.

Larger orders, 60 units and more, will still be handled by the store or by mailing me at steve@canaan.io .

We are currently in the process of fulfilling the backlog of larger orders and so the webshop will show a "sold out" status for our bulk product. During Golden week ( Sept28th-Oct8 ) we will be tidying up the shop. I will be working over the holiday so please feel free to mail me if you have any questions and the shop will re open after Oct 8.

Steve

So just an opinion here, I definitely agree they failed in rolling communication out to the home miner, at almost every turn. Honestly they shouldn't have even held a sale on August 31, but they must have thought they could get things done as they did in the past
Now quality of the order we have heard about aside, anyone who hasn't been able to order from minerwarez, didn't put in the leg work. We all saw the main site direct us there, the minerwarez site did give the option to receive an email update when it went live, and I received it. I had an order in on the 31st but no money changed hands and I felt fine ordering from the distributor and cancelling my Canaan order, and if you wanted a unit you could have done the same.

Where was the notice to go to Minerwarez?  I did not get it.  Once my order was in at Canaan I assumed I was waiting for an email with a bitcoin address. Only after not getting anything did I come back here (and that was after going to the support page on Canaan and seeing nothing).

This is on them, not me, nor the hundreds (I suspect) of others who are still not aware.
