Does anyone know if these A8 can comingle on the same controller as A741 or do they need their own?

From their official site:

"By connecting our AvalonMiner Controller (sold separately) to a single AUC3 (AvalonMiner USB Convertor 3), you may connect five AvalonMiners. For maximum usage, you may connect the AvalonMiner Controller to 4 AUC3 devices which may each connect to 5 AvalonMiners for a total simultaneous management of twenty AvalonMiner 821 to reach 220 TH/s (RTHS)."

With that, I'd say yes. I would think there will not be a new controller, but they might do an update on the firmware eventually.

Edit: Being this is the same controller for the whole line of new AvalonMiners, I'd believe they can "comingle".

The only difference between these miners appears to be the number of chips on each hash board.
(With exception of the A8 integrated power supply)

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Maybe... This doesn’t say anything about 741 mixed in with A8 though.

I don't believe the A8 model has an integrated power supply.  The last Chinese-only version of the A7 apparently did, but I don't see the same verbiage in the description of the A8.  Feel free to correct me.

Hi HagssFIN,

As you know, I am still looking to buy a miner - be it new or used.

How much are you looking at? And may i ask how is it working?

I am willing to pay for shipping to Singapore, if we both can agree to a price, and escrow accepted?

With warm regards.

ps. its past my bedtime as its Singapore 12.50am now. Looking forward to your reply when I wake up. PM can't work, it keeps getting timeout error 524.

You are correct. I think it was a copy paste issue from when they put up the 761, and bare bones description of the A8 information.

So don't go selling those power supplies yet

Let's guess on price. If the 741 is $1,050 and the 761 is $1,400 - I'm thinking the 821 is going to be $1,800 + Power ($129) + Controller ($100 - if you don't already have one) $2000+ for 11 TH/s - worth it?

I'm not 100% if it's integrated or not. There was some speculation about it last week. I threw that in because that's the only difference
I've seen between the models, besides the number of chips per hash board. I was making a point about them sharing the same controller.

I'm going to quote myself once I saw what Bitmain is doing with the S9 pricing. There is obviously some collusion going on. I wouldn't be surprised if they price these at $2500 - $3000

Not true, 90 days is all they give you on the miners.

Oh, yes. You are right.

I looked now at https://canaan.io/product/avalonminer-741/

I wonder what is that whole two-year warranty thing then?  Huh

I was excited about these until now... unless I’m missing something. I just did some tablecloth math, and I’m not sure what I want these instead of more s9s- even at their higher price. I was assuming these will go for $1800 like someone said. That makes it like a bit faster break even, but longer term the s9 seems more profitable still to the tune of about $1k/yr.  Am I wrong?  I really like the Avalons better but performance/ROI matters.

You cant look at the raw profit numbers when comparing the two miners. You have to look at labor costs and downtime due to hardware failures. S9 carries about a 10% risk of failure in the first 6 months versus an Avalon that is around 1%. Also this is the Avalon 7 thread, the Avalon 8 was just released and is much more comparable to the antminer.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

Canaan just increased prices on their webpage - 741 is up from 1050,- USD to 1450,- and the 761 up from 1400,- USD to 1860,-  (!)

I wonder if this will affect us who already have pre-ordered??  Shocked

No idea why you hating Bitmain and their product S9. I have received my first S9 and it is more silent, cooler and hashing slightly over nominal hashrate opposite 741 which hashing below nominal hashrate. And also if I consider price and power efficency it beats Avalon.
So far the only advantage of Avalon seems to be resistance to dusty environment.
