I just started mining and have been using my computers 6870.  Everything has been working pretty well and i have been getting about 300 Kh/s.  So i went to the store last night and after a bunch of research i purchased a 7870.  it was on sale and i saw online that people were getting hash rates of about 400-450 Kh/s.

After installing my brand new second card i started mining, and the new card just will not perform!!!  i cannot get more than about 275Kh/s.  I searched and searched last night for hours trying to get this going.  I tried different thread concurrencies, intensities, pools, i updated the drivers to the newest version, as well as the newest BETA.  I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO PLEASE HELP!!!! haha

Any suggestions?

I did install my card drivers...i have tried 13.1 which is the latest released and i have tried 13.3 (currently) which is the latest beta release.  Did not see much of a difference with each.  I will download and try 12.8 now.

If the drivers dont work just try testing the 7870 by itself first to make sure its not a dud card
should be getting at least 350ish
400+ will require overclocking

I thought i would be getting in the 400 range after looking at this link. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

if you scroll down to the 7870s they are all showing in the 400+ range.  one entry is actually my card.  I have the MSI R7870

If you read to the right side of the column it also says 1100 clock speed and the card you mention on that link is clocked at 1250 with changed heatsink

I also own a 7870 Gigabyte OC 1100MHz from the factory and a 7970 xfx ghost dd

anyways if you cant get 12.8 to run theres something wrong

what operating system do you have?

I am having exactly the same situation. Same card, mining litecoins only with 270k max. Bitcoin mining seems to be fine (apporx 420MHash).
If anyone would have a solution for this I would be more than happy.
I already tried different miners and different settings on intensity and thread-concurrency - still same result

litecoin mining is abit different from bitcoin

clock/memory where memory should be higher

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117221.0

try that

I am running win 7 ultimate x64.  I have uninstalled my other card so i am running with just the 7870 right now.  I will try the 12.8 again now.

im using this batch configuration in cgminer 2.11.4 and getting an average of 350 kh/s and that is without any voltage changes. If you dont want to overclock it at all you can take out those setting after the --auto-fan stuff

cgminer --scrypt -o yourpool:port -u yourusername -p yourpassword --intensity 12 --worksize 256 -g 2 --thread-concurrency 5120 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1450  --temp-target 66

Just tried that with that http://de.msi.com/product/vga/R7870-2GD5T-OC.html card. Still only 290khash and my fan is going crazy.

my fan is usually spinning in the 2700-2900 rpm range but it keeps it around 64 degrees C and I dont get any hardware issues.

I am using an XFX card but I dont see why it would be much different.

This was also on ltcmine.ru stratum server im not sure what pool youre using

it's more likely crashing because of something else I'd say.

what does your batch file look like?

OK so i reinstalled windows and fixed the crashing problem.  I have been messing with settings on my 7870 and am not getting results.  it seems like no matter what i make the settings i average about 280 kh/s. I have tried different thread concurrencies thread counts intensities and have tried both cgminer and guiminer scrypt.

I do not understand it.  I cannot get this card to perform.  This is very frustrating.  does any1 have a 7870 and can help me get setup with either guiminer scrypt or cgminer?  I tried the settings which were posted earlier in this thread and got the same result about 300 kh/s

I only use 7970's, but they worked out of the box.  I just can't use cgminer 2.11.x anything for some reason.  I use 2.10.x still.

Try a 0.57 Core:Memory ratio (570 Core to 1000 Memory is a good starting point)

Check you are not accidently CPU mining at the same time.

I made that mistake with a tick box and it killed the AMD performance due to shared openGL

I checked and i am not cpu mining at the same time.

im using this batch configuration in cgminer 2.11.4 and getting an average of 350 kh/s and that is without any voltage changes. If you dont want to overclock it at all you can take out those setting after the --auto-fan stuff

using these settings i am running at about 290 Kh/s

any suggestions how i can modify these settings to get some more out of the card?  I feel like the card has more in it, when i run my 6870 i get 290Kh/s and use these settings

--intensity 18 --worksize 256 --gpu-threads 1 --thread-concurrency 6720 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 900 --gpu-memclock 1050

if i am getting 290 out of my 6870 i should definitely be able to get more out of my 7870!

also is there a way to have one GPU run with 1 thread and another with 2.  i tried --GPU-threads 1,2 but it will not work.  says "1,2" is not a number.  i am trying to set GPU0 to 1 thread and GPU1 to 2 threads

Thanks for everyones help!

Don't forget to erase the bin file in cgminer directory each time you change your launch parameters Sad It may save some headaches !

I used them out of the box and never had any problem.
thats really bizarre that 2.10 works and .11 does not.  using the same config file from .10?
