I tried setting one up using bitmsg.me. Will this work? It's been a day but haven't heard anything yet.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the
subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The
subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I can't vouch for that site, so I'm unsure if it works. Have you tried setting up the client for your OS using either the CryptoJunky or GuidingTech guides? If you have the client running, send me your BM address and I'll help you test it to make sure you can send and receive messages. |

I didn't know this project was still being actively developed, it seems like it was first introduced ages ago. Love the ideas, look forward to seeing it come to fruition.

The reason you haven't heard much or haven't seen the project get all that much attention is because we decided against taking your money and then running around looking for a plan. Instead we decided to build some industry relationships that we hope will end up in a much better ecosystem for long-term dev on projects like MC2. A lot has been going on in the background. If you're interested in hearing about it and getting involved, feel free to send tacotime or me your BM address or PGP keys, and he'll send you the communication. We're gathering up all the supporters of the project that stood with us, before we christen this ship for the high seas.  |

A quick update; There are a lot of so-called "next gen" cryptocurrencies coming to the forefront. We are watching these closely to see how they fare, including: - nxt - ethereum (source code)- maako's UTXO ledger system/ultimate blockchain compression and his work towards contract scripting for Freicoin (Freimarkets) - bitshares Probably ethereum is the most interesting because it has a new "memory hard" hash algorithm (dagger) and a transaction scripting language that operates like a programming language. The latter may turn out to be totally and crazily dangerous, but I'll keep an eye on it. I contacted one of the lead devs behind it as we live close by, but I haven't heard back from him yet. I want to keep MC2 dynamic, that is, if a new feature becomes something incredibly useful for a chain, we can place it into it with a hardfork. I think modularity is key in keeping up with the ever-changing and rapidly growing world of cryptocurrency. Beneath a layer of modularity I hope to maintain a robust, stable cryptocurrency system that addresses some of the fundamental shortcomings of Bitcoin. I will get back to the remaining BMs/PGP keys later tonight. |

BTW, have you taken a look at the counterparty project ? It is also interesting and worth to follow IMO and have actual code that works which is not always the case for other new projects.

Hi all, I have recently been reading about cryptocurrencies and I am following this thread with great interest. One thing I noticed is the name of the coin is likely to induce confusion and to greatly reduce the branding position of MC2 in the short to medium term (or until one of the two netcoin fails). While still not extremely popular, the other netcoin returns about 106,000 results in Google ("netcoin" -mc2-) and is traded on at list 2 platforms while being listed at http://coinmarketcap.com/. I think the name of MC2 should be changed as soon as posible to something unique.From what I have read, tacotime absolutely wants the initials to be MC2 so, in this respect, I propose mcoin (MC2) as a potential new name. M would stand for mobile ("able to move or be moved freely or easily") and the 2 would indicate it is a second generation cryptocurrency. There is also m-coin (MC2) that could be interesting. From my opinion, starting a phrase with "M-coin" is more aesthetically pleasant than with "Mcoin" but everywhere else I think mcoin is better. It would be nice to have the opinion of a marketing designer to know whereas mcoin or m-coin is better for marketing purposes. M-coin.org is available was just registered by myself and I think it would be a good start both for mcoin and m-coin. I would gladly donate the domain name. If success follows, we could then purchase mcoin.org. tl;dr: mcoin as a new name for MC2. 7rue |

ethereum sounds cool, but I worry its possibly a bit too complex and ambitious at this stage. I read everything here twice and Im still trying to absorb it all. ( http://ethereum.org/ethereum.html) Dagger sounds great. With scrypt ASICs coming out this year, hobby mining looks to be coming to a close for all who wish to derive a profit. I dont see this as a major issue, but I know many do. Yes, ASICs might be biased towards pro-level miners, but cryptocurrency in general is biased towards people who own and are familiar with computers. Everything cant always be 100% fair for everyone. Thats life. |
