This question has endless variables, so for the benefit of this post let’s keep things as simple as possible.
Ok, so assuming Bitcoins don’t have any serious setbacks, (systems failure, and or attacks). People steadily gain faith in Btc, and they become convenient and useful for the general population.
I would ask the question, what percentage of the population use Btc now? and with that as a reference point, what is their value likely to be if 20% 50% 80% of the population begin to use them?
How quickly could btc rise? and what are they likely to be worth in 1year, 3years or 10years?
How many among us will fully back btc’s, and ride their progression to riches?
Only optimistic’s may post plz?

I think it will go mainstream but not in the sense that everyone's thinking, all the governments will hate it, the media will hate on it and all the big financial people will hate it, but I suspect under the rest of us it will be extremely popular, I think it's going to go the same way Bittorrent has.

The recent al-Jazira program which Aamer Taaki appeared on seemed reasonably unbiased.
The corporate western media, though, are indeed a different kettle of fish. But anyone can (for now at least) watch al-Jazira or RT in the UK in the clear (I believe).

I certainly hope it does. Once people realize they can be free of the government debt machine, there's no stopping it. The idea will spread like wild fire, and if Bitcoin does not succeed, its improved version will. The point isn't Bitcoin, the point is monetary freedom.

I think the idea of cryptocurrencies will succeed, but not necessarily bitcoins.

Cryptocurrency as a technology, I haven't seen one convincing reason why it can not become mainstream.

Where did you read that? All over the place, now that has been twisted and even the official bitcoin site states that satoshi provided a "proof of concept" bitcoin client. Gladly there is archive.org. Revisionist history doesn't work on the web... |

Link please. I am interested in finding out what Satoshi's plan was, write a client, prove the concept, shut it down, and go home write a lab report? ok I was wrong it was a get-rich-quick scheme by satoshi and his friends. Seriously it can only be one of those two things  also see my sig |
