i got a spare computer running Vista.

i gonna put Ubuntu 11.04 on it so it would run more better since it only has 512 RAM.

What do i need to do if i get ATI 6990 or ATI 5770 and start mining.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

this isn't a gaming computer

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

be careful video cards swap informatoin from main system memory instructions aren't written directly to it. it's rarely a good idea to have less system memory than video memory
