Is mining destroying my PC?

In the ancient times, I used to mine with my high-end gaming PC. I thought that I never experienced any issue from it, but once my video card died.

My friend said that my video card died because it was old and I destroyed with running GPU mining.

Could that be true? Is mining harming the hardware?

The heat can break your GPU. The workload can also break it.
What are you mining? Don't tell me you're GPU mining bitcoin.

I cannot confirm this for sure but i have experienced something similar. i used to mine alt coins with my R9280x. Though it didn't break down just had to replace both of the fans and the paste.

I think when we mine we use the full potential and sometimes even higher than that continuously for quite sometime and like every other machine it can get wear and tear.. like u said it has its lifetime ... just that we make it shorter.

Still that was one time thing.

Hardware hasn't made for doing the mining activities(bitcoin). Especially about mine bitcoin.

Running your gpus at 80c  with fans at 90% 24/7/365 will wear the gear out.

I don't over clock to mine my gpus are 60c And fans are 60%.

What your friend told you is correct. Mining using your GPU will generate a lot of heat and continuous stress on your GPU which in effect will shorten the lifespan of your GPU. Everything has an expiration this also includes GPUs. GPUs has can only be used for so long before it eventually breaks down. Because you used it for GPU mining then, it broke down earlier than expected than if it was used for gaming purposes only.

The only part that might break is your fans. And its not because of GPU mining but because of the way its mounted in a GPU rig, basically the wrong way and causes the fluid to leak out much easier. They weren't designed to be mounted vertically but horizontally.

There is also the rare chance that a VRM or capacitor might blow, but its rare and warranty usually covers that.

Alot has changed since the Litecoin mining days which took GPUs to its limit, these days mining doesn't stress the components as much.

Looking at those figure it will surely blown and wear out  your gpu and overclocking is not really advisable unless if  you are already experience and pro enough but mining bitcoin on pc is not profitable already and it really needs asic miners. GPU mining is possibly only for altcoins as of todays but not possible already for bitcoin mining.

Yes surely mining will destroy not only your video card but also your motherboard if you dont provide a proper cooling to the unit, but still after some time you will face the hardware fault problem this is due to high usage of hardware utility. That is why it is counted that how much coin you mine and how much profit you take then you have to calculate the invested and then minus it and you will get your mining ROI
