Cool, I'm up and hashing here with wrecked equipment. More details on this thread.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1283859.20

Next up: Fixing blown Titans. Why not, I seem to be kind of good at this :-)

yeah ...i have no balls...i will be gettting one of the cloned titan bridges ....i have a jupiter 4 port board (which supposedly you can upgrade to a neppie so prob would work) and a spare raspberry pi B+ 512 mb (which I assume is the proper PI for the Titan)......sooooooo

All I have to do is take the Jupiter Board....pop the bridge on it......put the pi on it....re-do the SD firmware and fire it up?

or I suppose you could just fire up the above w/o a cube and see if the stuff comes up as a Tarky Titan IP and all with the firmware etc with no cubes?

I suppose you could fry the pi and/or the 4 port board i doubt the titan bridge would be affected?

Alas NO BALLS we need someone with a barely I mean barely working Titan cube to try this with (or send to someone with proper neppie board)

but that is the somewhat 'likely deluded' thoughts about this on this thread lol Smiley

as to 'straight titan controller fixes' you should find a few folk on here who need such..fixes  I'd think? (Vegas?)

Well, Im confused ... all that command states is the board powered up fine. LOL! So Im still not sure how that indicates failure.
Oh ok. Quick summary (I have all of this in my other thread, I really don't want to screw this one up with endless tech prattle)

On a "bad" board:
root@Neptune:/etc/init.d# io-pwr init
TPS65217 OK. Modification A, revision 1.2
Wrong SEQ4 value 0x40
Wrong ENABLE value 0x09
Wrong SEQ4 value 0x40
Wrong SEQ4 value 0x40
Wrong SEQ4 value 0x40
DC/DC converter configuration failed!

On a board where I pulled the shorted cap
root@Neptune:/etc/init.d# io-pwr init
TPS65217 OK. Modification A, revision 1.1
root@Neptune:/etc/init.d#

io-pwr is the command to fire up the DC-DC converter. It puts out three voltages. If a cap is shorted it detects the crowbar and fails.

Ah, now makes complete sense ... being that you showed me what an erroneous output from that command, on a bad board, looks like =)

Yeah, pretty much only first gen ASIC's were the real crypto makers in this game. Everything since then has been a race to make back ROI over a year w/ barely any profit beyond that, and by that time upgrades needed to happen to stay in that race. So, its constantly a cycle of not making much at all LOL! ...

Not really off topic but 'sorta' ..tripped over how to get your electric bill reduced big time for your miners (maybe)

below is my link to a thread I made here on bitcointalk on how I managed with a phone call and get winter electric rates for my miners moved to the 'winter elec heat' discount

rate. A drop from 13.7c kwh all last year (this is rate/fees/local/taxes/etc or around 2500 kwh or so for my house a month with 2 Titans divided by my monthly bill..ie real kwh costs!)

to the NEW rate (prob thru may bill or 4-5 months) or 9.27c kwh WOW!

With just a 'phone call' NO inspection etc...this may be a 'fluke' but if you are in USA and have Xcel ...look at the back of your bill for this option. I suspect it would also

apply to other world wide folk that during winter may have the same break in price for 'electric heat' option.

Anyway ...as you can see from my 'explanation' in the long post in thread below...I kinda stumbled into this ..and sat on pins and needles for 1 month till today's bill ...but

IT WAS approved...so man a drop from 13.7c kwh to 9.27c kwh is a really really big deal to me $115 usd a month savings.

You add the already $45 buck savings off my Gas Heating Budget plan (compared to before ASIC's in basement) a combined $160 buck a month savings thru the winter for the electric and

the gas was for all year round!

So if i can 'nurse' the Titans into say next winter.....a 'used' home asic machine with what i managed to pull off in the link below may make it profitable for me to "home mine' yet

into the winter of 2016-2017...assuming as we all wish the halving and such in 2016 ...hopefully ...drives btc and ltc prices UP!

anyway for what it is worth ....the link below..hopefully ..this works for you as well as it did for me..if not you are no worse off electric kwh price wise anyway so imho give it

a shot ..use what you want from how I tripped over this ..and good luck!

I am getting a pretty good year round  price of 9c/kwh and I have it locked in for 2 years. Not too far away is an electrical coop where rates are like 6-7c/kwh. I think the cheapest rates are utilities with hydroelectric power, and probably where a lot of datacenters are located. Texas  has it's own power grid so this contributes to lower rates as there's little interference and regulation from Washington dc.

again previous msg ..with the savings of combined $45 in my gas budget year round heating price per month due to miners and this winter electric home heating as primary change
I posted previously plan (which again is true 2500w 24/7 in a well insulated 3 bedroom house keeps the upstairs at 64F and downstairs at 61F and basement at 68F) also good
sleeping temps and I'm rarely home for heat to be more then that....anyway with the all year budget gas savings and the 115 bucks about a month on electric savings ..that is a total of
$1115 bucks per year in savings. Some of that also to be noted is savings above and beyond the 'titan asic miners' in this decrease in price from 13.7c kwh to 9.27c kwh applies to ALL my electric use too boot....

So yeah...with the BTC halving coming up in August 2016 a person using the above 'just may' be able to mine at least bought 'used' equipment as a home miner in winter of 2016-2017 yet it seems...or as you state places like USA states with hydroelectric and Texas etc.....

anyway hopefully it is not just me and with a phone call (esp Midwest Xcel customers...again call after hours and a regular xcel tech ...you don't want this passed around during the day to be mulled over..the regular customer rep after hours has the power to 'tag' such as was my case..just saying)

worth a call ..again esp Xcel electric customers...worse that can happen is 1) they laugh and go no....same rates.....2) they inspect your server equip ..laugh say nice try same old rates

hopefully it is 3) it is tag'd by rep ....and someone looks at your electric use in winter ..goes yep looks like winter electric heat is primary..and rubber stamps it ..like in my case

again below is the thread on how this was done on bitcointalk for those too lazy to scroll back Smiley

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1296558.msg13304401#msg13304401

again good luck...the down side on this is on APRIL 2016 when the rate reverts I am gonna 'cry me a river' it is gonna hurt to go from 9.27c kwh to 13.7c kwh in one swoop for an extra 115 bucks  a month to xcel..my only 'hope' is that BTC and LTC prices have gone up significant for it to take some of the pain away..

if nothing else I saved the above cash from electric anyway (off of titans) of $575 this winter anywary....when our "outer space alien overlord masters' take the Earth over and make this all moot and btc is 'beanie babies" heh Smiley well at least you saved that! Smiley

OK as a project to test WITHOUT A CUBE...assuming one can get a clone titan bridge (i have one on order) and supposedly a JUPITER OCT controller with 4 ports also works ..I also have that...and a spare LCD screen from Titan controller (have 6 on a controller 2 on other titans controller) and of course put the Firmware for Titan on SD card and I have a 'supposed' correct Raspberry PI B+ 512mb as well

So ...assuming my bravery factor can be 'pushed' up somewhat on this ...(donations? naw people don't go donations for stupid) anyway

I take 4 port oct knc Jupiter board....put clone bridge on it.....put raspberry pi on that....add the tarky titan firmware on the SD ...pop the LCD in (not sure what port does it matter) and then just simply SEE if the LCD at least shows Tarky Titan and looks like its looking for a cube...and ie be able to IP into it via putty and GUI and  showing NO cubes

would that be a good first step before the 'virgin sacrifice' of a even 1 die working Titan cube or some such on this project?

or again ..did i 'miss the memo' and this is not possible on anything say but a Neptune card or nov only knc Jupiter card and not my oct Jupiter 4 port card..and/or the
actual fpga on the titan orig card is different and not loaded

not sure of my bravery factor on the above but just asking if such a scenario would tell the tale? Smiley Again with the 'cloned titan bridge' coming...have all the parts staring at me above Smiley

I dont think this should be aproblem.

But i did read that someone have alreaady tried this whit KNC SHA256 boards and have failed, would be possible whit some hardware modification.

On this treadh someowere i think i did read that somone took a R-pi from titan whit bridge to a Neptune board, but The Board is unable to find the cubes.

I do not remeber who did this but should be somewere if you look around  Smiley

Okay sold 3, only 4 KnC bridges left. Again, pricing is firm at 0.5 BTC per bridge PCB. If someone wants a bigger amount than 5 bridges just PM me, there's two other guys that want more than 5, we can pool all the resources and just get a bulk order for the amount you want.

Here's what they look like fresh off the line.

They fit between your Titans Raspberry PI and the controller board. It has some reinforced copper to prevent burning out (which a lot of bridges did do). You can get them if you have burnt or broken bridges, or if you want some just in-case your controller's bridges fail than it's nice too.

we need someone brave (hint) with many titan bridges (double hint) to track down a Neptune board (most likely to work) and I can contribute the PI (too lame to use my 1 bridge) and  just see if one of these W/O A TITAN CUBE will not sit and act proper under the KNC Tarky Titan GUI etc (i can also toss in an unused Titan LCD to see if that comes up AGAIN WITH NO CUBE with nice tarky titan info)

at that point we can double dare each other for a few weeks to donate a Titan cube (even with only 1 die working) to test this completely

or am I simply in OZ with the rainbows and unicorns and someone braver then myself has tried this already with a big fat 'don't work' Smiley

I probably would man up and try it with my OCT Jupiter board that supposedly you can upgrade to a Neptune board..but we'd be better off on the
above test with a Neptune board imho

(why do i get the sense I'm going to hear the sound of crickets..on this idea....'deafening silence is my likely result to this post) Sad

It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)

Hey, I can take a hint. :|

lol I'm all for the idea, I have an extra pi and am willing to use a bridge up on a neptune for trials if someone is willing to send me their working neptune controller board (even though it most likely won't work, but we can't confirm either way until we try it).

you need me to send a spare Titan LCD or not in issue you can pop yours off? I also have a raspberry pi B+ 512mb 'supposedly' the version you are supposed to use (according to a knc tech on knc forums back in the day ..for what it is worth)

you do realize you will be a 'god' on this thread if you pull this off right? (many bridges sold...so many bridges....ie example..was told on this thread many times I could take my KNC OCT Jupiter (or saturn/mercury) or NOV Jupiter and UPGRADE them to a Neptune...thus the only thing I need is a frigging bridge and a pi and viola I have a spare TITAN controller (or if you have a trashed Titan controller you now have some hope)..my god 'recycling' old Jupiter boards even a 4 port board like mine to a Titan board would be frigging epic!

me ...I'd like the 3rd controller just to use for 'a couple' problem cubes I have to play with off by themselves w/o mucking up the other systems..I could
reboot away and dork with them some w/o taking down or power flipping a hole 'titan' unit as such (or offline)

anyway it likely won't work ..but maybe if it DON'T blow up....could give the coders a clue on wtf is going on Smiley for maybe a future fix?

(ah stuff to break ...i like it...would be much better with 3 of us and a few beers for courage thou...just saying)

Haha, well i've got plenty of titan LCDs, don't really need them anyway.

But yeah if anyone's willing to send a neptune/sha256 knc board my way I can risk my pi and bridge to see if the controller is basic or complex. In the case of it being complex i'll just clone it as a last resort.

you mean 'clone' the bottom 6 port Titan Card? is that even 'doable?' (also epic if possible)

me...as far as projects ..got the thermal paste/heatsinks (self-stick) and the better fan (swedish guy titan fix video on this thread) soooooo....now just have to 'man up' and take the cube apart i suspect is slowly losing it due to heat....was all at 325 setting on adv page now only 2 dies..other 2 are 250 and 275 respectively....i try to up them heat shoots up above 95c (ie a 'clue' to repaste I think) Smiley

projects, projects and never any time Smiley

again any titan owners in midwest usa with xcel energy look on the back of your bill for discounted elec for home heat with electric to save some cash (115 a month saved by me for 5 months...) check my pm's under my name or look back on this thread (don't want to go too off topic) but very very happy fellow I am tripping over such..i would ASSUME that other elec utils offer such on winter heat look and ask around imho Smiley

Quick question for anyone listening: Can you touch with your finger the FPGA chip on a running Neptune/Titan controller board and tell me if it's cold or warm? If warm, how warm?

Thanks and happy holidays!

I knew it would come to this.....folk on the thread have now resorted talking others into 'fondling' their KNC Equipment..(hey what you do in privacy with your  titan miner is your business.....but really...to post such asic porn crimes in public!) ...I suppose soon the 'compromising photo's will surface" ..alas .the shame and horror..this thread is 'doomed' Sad
