What was the phone number?
//DeaDTerra

http://www.kncminer.com/pages/contacts
+46 8 559 253 20

But, I think only infrastructure (money, engineers, ..., or more money, and use engineers of another company,  for example  FPGA-to-ASIC experts) can  prove,  or not, is  a scam.

I gave it a call but got no answer.
I will try again tomorrow.
If you guys want a Hero member with a good record who is located in Stockholm to audit and vouch for you then send me a PM.
I would love to see your operation and take my experience back to the forum.
//DeaDTerra

I also tried calling them on some of the other numbers on both Friday and Saturday:
+46 8-28 18 53 - phone company message - "number not in use"
+46 76-170 50 40 - call disconnects immediately
+46 72-178 73 60 - phone company message - "it is hard to get through right now"
+46 72-333 34 08 - voicemail - "welcome to kncminer - we can't take your call right now, but please leave a message"

I was thinking about visiting Andreas' house, but decided it would be better to at least speak to someone on the phone first.
Called all these numbers again,
I either get disconnected or get to a answering machine.

Okay,
I got a hold of Andreas.
We chatted a bit, I can confirm that he is Swedish ^^.
We discussed that KNCminer will deliver more info when they can, when you actually have something to give out instead of just plain promises without any backing.
If you want this info then stay tuned to this post or join their newsletter.

So for now I can confirm that at least one of them is Swedish and he sounds pretty legit Smiley

Good to know that you may have found something legit.. thread was started on April 8th .. so could he comes out with something solid in 2 months from now? did he mentioned the foundry, factory, what size of the chips he is using? does he has prior investors funding in this project? hoping to hear more Smiley

Yes there are some facts that he can disclose without promising anything. I don't understand why they can't tell us anything about the chip or technology or investors?

He mentioned nothing of the questions above nor did I ask.
It seemed like it was the start of the project and that he would release more info when he had it.

If the address gleaned from the internet is actually where they live, then they'll have no problem somehow showing proof without fear of something nefarious happening to them, for the information is already out there.

Although I've yet to give my exact mailing address, I'm on record in stating that I live at the corner of Castle and Center in Sandwich, IL, and have a totem pole depicting Honest Abe in the yard (seriously). If I had to prove my existence to calm nerves for some reason, the first thing I would do is take a pic of the totem pole with a scrap cardboard sign nailed to it that has the word Bitcoin on it, snapped with a camera properly timestamped and with GPS so that the EXIF stats can be viewed.

The above wouldn't alleviate all concerns, but surely would go a long way in garnering support for their endeavor.

Another thing I would do is scan an image of driver's license and PM it to theymos and one other trusted member for added proof.

They aren't asking for anyone's money anyway, so I think you are taking this identity hunt a bit too seriously at this point.
Wait until they post more information or demo a functional product..

Tbh. kncminer announced too early, if they are just starting up. No one wants to see another BFL ASIC stunt..

since this is already 19 pages long and I don't know how many pages more we need to write before he gives us more information.? sincerely hope he comes out with more powerful machines, 85gh/s or higher because that seems to be the trend...from the existing players. will be great if he give us more information... we know their address and names assuming is correct ... now is time 4 them to show us the proof and not waste our time here.

If they haven't got the chips is good time that they buy some from Avalon .. only 780BTC per order... so that all our per-order can be full filled?

If these guys are Avalon resellers, I think the European customers - and everybody else - would appreciate an ASIC option that both will deliver and would have better customer service than Avalon itself (one can hope), and the claim to be able to ship this summer seems reasonable.

What happened with the plans to sell the units through regular retailers like Dustin?

As for votes for what particular configurations they want to sell, I wonder if they'll skip that and go straight to preordering. Cases, PSUs etc. would just be more overhead when they could just sell finished modules to the hungry masses.

Hell, why even sell the chips, where they could sell the mining rights to the silicon sand?

Hell, why even sell the chips, where they could sell the mining rights to the silicon sand?
Because startup costs for silicon mining and IC production are enormous, while PSUs and computer cases are available off the shelf almost in every country in the world. It makes sense to find ones place in the margins vs. cost field. Avalon are in the high margin and high cost area, since they gambled on making an IC for Bitcoin mining. An integrator/re-seller are in a medium margin and medium cost area, since they won't have to design and get ICs made from scratch, but they have to assemble modules. Adding PSUs and cases adds to their cost more than their margins would justify, since pretty much everyone who would buy a unit from them is capable of buying and installing a PSU and case themselves. (Yes, yes, I know the mining rigs pictures thread provides a counterpoint, but the point remains that selling modules to miners is more cost effective for both the miners themselves and the integrator.)

The above is of course only on-topic in this thread if KNCminer really are buying their ASIC wafers from Avalon.

They are not buying anything from Avalon.

I emailed the address on the site to ask a few questions about the product.

The response is below, and was received within a an hour.

Hi Adam

You are quite right it is hard to predict the exact cost of everything before we know the answers.

What I can say is we will have multiple products

You can expect to see products that are available in one or two weeks from date of order which will still earn you money and return in a short time frame.  Also products and services which will have a longer lead time but will be competitive  the performance of the existing market players
