Get rights like what?  Upgrading your Saturn to a Jupiter?  Sorry - there aren't upgrades past Jupiter...

Maybe they can, like, tape two Jupiters together...

Avalon Shmavalon.

Back onto KNCminer's order numbers... they have "Day 1" and "Day 2" as some kind of shipping batch identification.
I figured they could ship a few hundred 4RU machines a day, if that...

So this guy is just now auctioning a "Day 1" order with order number #1824: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=268149.0

So which of the following applies??

  • Day 1 doesn't actually mean the first day of shipping.
  • There are a lot of unpaid orders up to order number 1824.
  • Somehow KNCminer will be shipping almost 2000 x 4RU units in a single day....  Shocked

There are a lot of unpaid orders generally. When you submit an order you are allocated an order number and even if you don't pay it still stays in their system.
A friend of mine just placed one - Order ID: 52xx

More important is how many of these 5200 orders are paid for and real - this information would be very valuable in establishing the expected (very rough) estimate of the future hash rate, thus easier to calculate possibility of positive ROI.
Because right now I don't really care how much net profit I can make as long as it is positive.

For example even with 1 billion difficulty it still makes sense to mine with KNC Miner and it is very simple to calculate returns - 1 billion difficulty equals 7158.278TH/s, so if you have 400GH/s miner = 400/7158000=0.0000558815 shares of the 3600 daily coins=0.2011734 coins per day=6.13BTC per month.

Fishy at best, I have order #5x, and its a "Day two of production" order. Sam has also stated he does not want sales of pre-orders, and will do what he can to stop it.

Nothing fishy about it, your low order number just means you pay really early within the 7 day period, but you should have had an early preorder that was in line after mine.

You can see in this thread that reports KnCMiner preorders https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=249065.0, there are two other orders paid on June 10th (just like mine) which are scheduled for day 1, even when they have actual order numbers higher than myself:

Quote
dwdoc   19xx   10 June   1   0   0   Hosting   1
kudzu   200x   10 June   1   0   0   China   1

Regarding Sam not liking the sell of preorders, that's fine, I'm not selling my preorder, I'm looking for a partner to purchase the Jupiter upgrade and cover half the cost of the hosting. It is my right to purchase an upgrade and keep my place in line.

Best regards,
Where can Jupiter owners get rights like that?

THIS!

I also want to double my hashing power with delivery in September. Why can't I just because I payed and trusted more in the beginning by going straight for a Jupiter?

For those that don't feel like avoiding the WSJ paywall:

"Investor Joe Lewis isn't investing in a bitcoin venture called Avalon and doesn't lead a Zurich-based private-equity fund called the Phoenix Fund. An article on the supposed investment was inaccurately published and has been removed."

"A version of this article appeared August 5, 2013, on page C3 in the U.S. edition of The Wall Street Journal, with the headline: Famed Trader Backs Bitcoin."

arent they kinda useless tho?

its basically like all those alt coins.....useless. lol

ps. i dont know much about them.

Current rate is around $.62 each.  Far from worthless.   I also feel they will become useful as people build off the infrastructure.  The idea behind the coin is a secured key/value data store.   Some projects have built DNS for .BIT domains and there are a few other projects in the works.   I think its a great concept and all it takes is someone to build upon it.  NMC won't be used like BTC and it is not a competitor.   I would love to see people build a lookup system for bitcoin addresses which could be name friendly or link to an email account.  This would be decentralized and secure and very simple since one is just building on top of NMC.

sending BTC to Me@Home.com would be awesome...

There already is - http://www.paythru.to

My buddy runs that site,  its a similar concept but doesn't use NMC and is tailored to websites.  (validating u own the domain and having the BTC address associated with it)

My idea was to have the value entries within the NMC block chain and then using it to resolve the BTC address.  paythru is a central implementation--  using NMC would be completely distributed.

Since the WSJ, and the other 'press releases' the story has gained some momentum and appeared on other sites, meaning any hoaxster has gone to and is continuing to go to considerable effort to spam.

The WSJ running is what perplexes me, but I can only assume Sunday night limiting means to make phone calls and confirm, but that still would at least mean some googling like have just done. Still it wouldn't be the first time a journalist performs little research and takes Internet gossip as fact. What's even weirder is 'financial news' has clearly been slipped a web domain, so they must have had first hand contact with the hoaxster.

First of all, in order to get a story in a traditional newspaper on Monday morning, it needs to be submitted on Sunday night. So it's not at all unusual to see a story go up online the night before it shows up in the paper.  They may have been working on it over the weekend, or perhaps longer. It's not at all unusual to see a newspaper article go online in the middle of the night, that's when they're finalized.

Quote
Fake site, and definitely a fake twitter, someone had a lot of time on their hands, the swipes at KnC meant it was specifically targeted at spreading FUD between them and Avalon. Yifu is probably enjoying the confusion it's causing right now, as last time he was 'woken up in the middle of the night' with FUD being spread he jumped on this forum immediately to put the record straight. Any truth in this would be the worst news possible for centralising Bitcoin. I appreciate the ASIC route has been fraught with scams and greed, but we're finally just on the cusp of having competing choice of real products available and hopefully fair pricing/returns with various options of DIY and/or purpose made units. One entity controlling all the supply would kill mining...

I don't really get how you can say this is a "fake twitter" simply because of some "unprofessional" sounding tweets.  People post unprofessional things on their twitter feeds all the time. Just because someone is a rich wallstreet banker doesn't mean they are going act and sound professional all the time.  Quite the opposite, in fact.  Have you ever read Micheal Lewis' Liars Poker?  Wallstreet culture is not very P.C. at all.

Anyway, if the story isn't true, that means someone straight up conned the WSJ, feeding the reporters a bunch of fake information. There is no way this is a simply a misunderstanding based on a couple years old article.
Right now I'm thinking this was an advanced market manipulator whom managed to trick mainstream press into telling the story he wanted with an eye towards manipulating the price of bitcoin, trying to cause a crash or rise or something.

Eyeing the price last days, they largely failed

I don't think this was related to bitcoin price directly, more a play on the security exchanges, and a rather successful one I'd say. All the mining companies share prices have gone down today.

I also Found this though....  see last paragraph..   Smiley

Your place is only worth something if you have already paid.
The order you'll get your unit is determined by when you send them money - so... if you have not paid, then a number from a contact form doesn't have much value.  Undecided

Hi, Actually this is NOT true

We will open up the order books soon and give everyone a chance to pay for their preorder (7 days), We will then ship them based on the preorder registration number, not when the order was paid for

as long as the order is paid for within the 7 days we will honor the queue placement. if you pay on day 8 you will simply enter the queue from the back

I hope this helps

if you do sell your order number all I will need is an email from both parties and I will do the rest, they will get your queue placement. it can’t however be for more than your registered amount of boxes and we will not split preorders into multiplies

I don't know how many orders were required to sell out KnC's September batch, but based on October stock, they would appear to have over 1 pentahash for sale.

TLTR!

let's say there is a 50/50 chance they will deliver as promised. it is too early to come to a conclusion. they are very silent, so it seams the process is not under their control at the moment, could be they are waiting for the chips to arrive. there was a discussion somewhere about the posibility to produce 28nm chips for a small buisiness but I got the feeling it is not imposssible in general.

So what's the latest? Does KNCMiner look on track for September delivery?
Read the thread.

TLTR!

let's say there is a 50/50 chance they will deliver as promised. it is too early to come to a conclusion. they are very silent, so it seams the process is not under their control at the moment, could be they are waiting for the chips to arrive. there was a discussion somewhere about the posibility to produce 28nm chips for a small buisiness but I got the feeling it is not imposssible in general.

My suspicion is that it's likely to be largely transient right now.  There was a difficulty reset not too many hours ago, and this is the time for percentage players whose staffs don't work weekends to bring power on line, and their "dance" can cause spikes up over 8 blocks/hr or so.
