The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

First of all, as I've doubted KnC will accomplish this I must say: Congratulations KnC. If somebody told me this morning they will produce fully working prototype by sundown I would think he is on drugs. Thought KnC were slackers, turned out they were tight as a drum. To manage to do this in a single day shows they were fully prepared, when they got a chance to walk the walk they did it. They haven't over-delivered, but considering machine has 25% hash-rate increase compensating eventual 25% difficulty increase caused by being late you can say they simply delivered.

Thank god (for us who bet they'll fail) they haven't done this on Friday, cause we would lose the bet. You can say bitbet resolving to "No" leaves, in the end, everyone happy: Us for winning the bet and KnC customers getting their machines soon. Good job KnC!

What you meant to say was that you are terrible in evaluating investments..  that's ok, you probably have a BFL order clouding your brain and storming your butt

I wanted to say exactly what I've said. Too bad you can not dig it.

Indeed. But the next diff will be approx 30% higher and you don't have your miner yet. You'll start (at best) at 30% lower than today.

It's a race condition: if they can make the chips work 30% faster before the next diff change and you get you miner in the meantime, you won't have lost revenue (grossly). If they fail, you will be worse off.

Maybe next time they'll know better than making claims they can't keep.
What are you talking about, every calculator I have seen says the Oct delivery KNCminer is going to pay for itself.

I said you will make less than if it were shipped on time, unless they made them fast enough to cancel out the difference in difficulty. I was not trying to divine the possibility of you making break-even or positive ROI.

If I recall, they said they'd ship in the summer, then pushed it back to August, then to September and now October.

I have a feeling the little miners have just been screwed by this release. The amount of hashing power coming from this is going to make what is already out there insignificant. The unprofitable miners will see what little they are making dry up. People who spend hundreds because they can't afford to spend thousands have just lost everything. When two machines produce over 1 terahash... Gigahash has just become unimportant. I hope the pools can support all this hashing power.

This release is a significant game changer. I think that the Hobby aspect is going to disappear. Tongue

Hashrate is about to double. That makes a 600GH/s miner then as fast (profitable) as a 300GH/s miner now. Fun times!

The real story here isn't "ROI or no ROI?  Ship 9/30 or 10/3?"  The celebration and the sour grapes, the sore losers and the ecstatic supporters, the assholes and the gentlemen, that's all fun to read.  But IMO opinion that's not the story.

The real story is the presentation of a functioning IC entailing leading edge technology in a period of time far less than they'll teach you in school is even feasible.

Every time some information came out, it was met with armchair experts who pontificated on the folly of it all.  It's all in the 600+ pages of this thread:  "The package is ridiculously large; OrSoC must be idiots."  "The power consumption will be way off the scale."  "They can't come to market without the test sequence. It's going to be a disaster of BFL proportions."  "They're too small to produce in size."  Best of all:  they're Swedish, how can they possibly do high tech?

Spending a significant part of my life in venture capital analysis, I have to say:  while there were no red flags for me from a business or technical standpoint, I didn't think it would happen this close to schedule; too many moving parts and supply chain issues to be certain.

There are still red flags, I'd say, in both CoinTerra and HashFast, but I'm not going to discuss them.  They will be what they will be.  Instead, I'm just sayin' to KnC's professionals:

Spectacular performance!

so just wondering what if i went and got a corsair ax760 for a mercury miner. overkill? waisting money for platinum cert? Its all digital...

Not overkill, it's 'future proof'!  And great PSU.  Now you'll have extra power if you want to add a couple of KNC expansion modules. Or you could even power several Blades or a Bitfury kit from the same PSU.

You know what's scary? People who pre-ordered kncminer gear seem to have basically won the lottery. There was no particular reason to think kncminer was more likely to succeed than many of the others who have attempted to make ASIC miners, and many fail. It looks like kncminer will deliver on time, or very very close to that, and well over specifications. And yet, it's unlikely that many of those who pre-ordered will ever mine as many Bitcoins as they paid for their miners, after the cost of electricity is deducted.

It's simple economics. If mining is particularly profitable, then more people will mine. This will continue until mining is not particularly profitable.

Why not talk about something of interest instead of bs? For example to kick start a more interesting conversation. Most here I gather are interested in making money on bitcoins. So, do we have a good product anywhere? I'd say no. And what would be a decent product? One that takes seriously the difficulty rate. Has anyone noticed the amount of bs in the bitcoin calculators? None take into account the most important factor: difficulty ratio! You plug your hash speed and they all spew ROI in so many days/weeks/months. What a bunch of crap! No difficulty into consideration at all. So, what is a good product? One that allows us to add on as difficulty increases. Is anyone producing these? Of course not. Why not? And why do I say of course not?... there, now someone else add something to this conversation which is quite a propos.

Cool thanks.
Although the 1200ax is about 120 bucks more.. hmmm.. should i or shouldn't i is the question..  Huh

I dont give 2 shits about ROI but I am very glad that KNC is making it worth the wait. Do keep in mind this is printed circut boards and thus can product product QUICK! Shocked Cool

Cannot wait to get it in the mail.

that being said, holy fuck, what the fucking shit, 620 fucking pages of shitposting?  thank god i avoided this shitfest of a thread

So what day 1/2/3 orders are shipping soon, and did they bump the hash rate up or something?  Was it just Jupiter orders that got free upgrades or Saturn as well?
