I am using the 16AWG cables that came with the AX1200i; the fault is clearly with the KnC "design" and not the cables.

What makes you think the AX1200i comes with 16AWG cables? I've never seen one with anything other than "type3" 18AWG cables. I've seen quite a few of them as well.

Plugging in the pci cable fully can be tricky, as most of the cubes have the pcb mounted about 1mm too low, and the plug tends to catch on the bottom of the hole in the cube. In order to get them to fully plug in FULLY, you must slightly LIFT UP and push in on the pci plug after it first gets a bite for it to fully slide into the plug socket.
If you miss it, and it fails to fully latch, it may indeed melt; especially if your psu employs 16awg wires.
Seeing a single wire on the pci plug begin the meltdown is a sure sign of a poor connection...
and if you use a dab of conductive grease on each pci connection, it will also help make good contact, and avoid all this.
power delivery is 95% on these imho

You didn't show us ALL of the cables that came with your PSU and while you DO get 2 (but only 2) cables that have 8-pin connectors on one end and 2X 6-pin AS WELL AS 16AWG wiring, you need 5 to get your Neptune running.

 The other 6 PCI-e cables included with that particular PSU are 18AWG and NOT useful for connecting to your Neptune.

This is why Tulip_wanna_be does not recommend the AX1200i PSU.

Rather than fighting over the details, why not cooperate with one another so that we can all live in safe and fire-proofed dwellings?

So, photograph the other 6 PCI-e cables that came with your PSU and let us see if they also have 16AWG wiring (or not).  That would be helpful.
If they do have 16AWG I will personally write a rant about Two_lips spreading misinformation.

You clearly don't need five cables with your AX1200i because you will need more than one (ideally three) anyway.

With two cubes per AX1200i I'm getting very good efficiency and 100% stability to date; not to mention OCP which may very well prevent my house burning down given this KfC "design".

This guy recommends AX1200i with splitter cables; you should be using splitter cables anyway since I have seen those EVGA boxes without OCP melt PCI-e plugs at the PSU end.

Things change and not all are created equal, even with same model #.
Blanket statements about models, brands, AWG etc. should be verified if possible.

I already owned my LAST(never again) modular PCIe PSU for a miner long before the Nep shipped.
It is a SAFETY issue not limited to use with any brand of miner.

2kW server PSU delivered to door USD $50
Breakout board for 2kW PSU USD $60
(DIY folks can use $15 connector and solder wires direct)
16AWG PCIe cables ~$5 each.
Power cable for PSU USD $10
You also need a fan to cool the PSU $20

I use 4kW(2 2kW PSU) per Nep for 92% PSU efficiency.
I can run a nep on 1 PSU if I need to. <<--not recommended

The only downside is the 2kW PSU are 220VAC.
For an extra ~$100 you could MAKE 220VAC @ home in the USA with two 110VAC outlets.
(The biggest cost is 12/3 extension cords you may already have)
Many 120VAC folks already use extension cords, same as DIY 220VAC.

There are also 750W server PSU solution bundles available.
4 @ 750 for a nep gives you one spare in a pinch.

I had a bunch of nice 1U server supplies that would have covered Neptune before I ordered the Corsair ones but I wouldn't be overly happy running without any OCP in a consumer environment; those server supplies will just keep pumping 12v out until any possible short reaches 2kW and that could easily mean a fire. They are designed to run in server rooms with fire suppression; not domestic dwellings.

Just my two cents.
