Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I too am having a tough time getting started with namecoins. I've been unable to find a functional namecoin faucet. I've tried mining in a merged mining pool but my laptop hasn't produced anything. If anyone's namecoins are burning a hole in their pockets, feel free to send me some. My namecoin address is N7x8XyD7gYqYP9bUDqwTWJG4R5YDBAieKZ .

Thanks in advance!

I would love a few coins (just enough to register a domain would be fine)

I have been looking for 2 days for a coin to get me started...

Seems the difficulty is very high yet nobody uses it Sad

Why not mine with a pool like mining.bitcoin.cz that uses merged mining? You will earn your BTC like normal and you will get some namecoins in addition as well.

Like I said; I tried a merged mining pool (I used bitminter.com) but my laptop was unable to produce a single accepted value when running it all night. I was using DiabloMiner. Difficulty may be too high for a laptop, even for merged mining in a mining pool.

I use an ASICMINER USB Block Erupter with Bitminter. I've mined 0.19 namecoins in about a week. The difficulty is high and their exchange value is rather low. There are probably better coins to mine if you don't do merge-mining with an ASIC (where they're just an extra to the BTC mined).

Because no-one wants namecoins. They're near worthless.  Wink

Is there a way to EARN namecoins? Maybe for writing?

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.
