How to monitor Diablominer clients remotely?

I've got a bunch of linux miners set up now behind a cable modem and an airport extreme wireless network.  So I'm wondering the following.  After I ssh into one of the machines, how can I monitor what my clients to see what they're doing / restart them / connect them to another mining pool, etc...

When I last ssh'd in, I was able to kill processes but NOT able to restart them properly.  Perhaps I just need the right combination of export DISPLAY=x.x.x.x:0.0 and whatnot.  But despite my best efforts I was unable.  The best I was able to get was the startup lines from Diablominer, but no indication that it had connected, etc... Perhaps the output from Diablominer use curses or some other library which will not display remotely?  Or not display when DISPLAY is not routed properly?

I am trying to ssh in via a Mac.  So part of the issue might be my needing to have X running on my mac?

But, if X windows is already running on the box, why would I need X on my Mac just to start / restart / reconfigure clients on the my linux boxes?  Surely there must be a way to have them connect to the already running X server which I can do just fine when sitting at the machine physically (eg., not ssh'ing in).

Since I'm currently running a single miner I haven't bothered with it, but in the past I've had some luck remotely monitoring things using a remote desktop protocol (RDP).  There are many softwares which enable you to have full GUI access to another computer remotely.  Windows comes with a Remote Desktop client, there's also real VNC, vmware, etc.  I'm sure you could find one of those who offers a linux server and mac client.

Vino come installed with Ubuntu, I use Peppermint Linux OS so I had to install it via apt-get

"apt install vino"
...
"vino-preferences"

Then from my windows machine I use TightVnc or RealVnc to connect tot he boxes..
