Hi Guys, Sorry if this is a stupid question or in the wrong place, But is rendering a 3D image (similar to how v-ray does it) a viable proof of work system?

I'm imagining two different scenarios:

1. A random scene is generated that is a specific difficulty so that it will take approximately 10 minutes to solve for the network (similar to bitcoin)
- in this scenario the mining isn't used in a useful way, and is just another POW scheme.

2. A scene is uploaded by an individual wanting to render a scene. The scene is evaluated (somehow) and assigned a reward. then the job submitted to to miners and rendered.
- in this one the mining is useful, as it helps to render an image.

This system should be ASIC resistant (and even if an asic is produced that would be amazing for the VFX industry). it should be memory hard also.

Other points:
 - people / companies already pay Render Farms (us.rebusfarm.net for example) money for a service like this.
 - there's already an established market for this kind of thing. In the example above the price is 3.1 cent/GHz hour
 - it would be putting the mining power to good use rather than just burning power & making heat.

Is this something that has already been discussed/ not a new idea?

Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Thanks
Anthony
