If theymos dies ?

It's a pretty serious question , I know they are all (theymos,BadBear & Cyrus) administrators but I suppose only theymos have control on the domain , host and everything else. Same question should apply for Sirius (who I suppose controls Bitcoin.org).
If there are no plans If and when that happens , wouldn't that make us (the bitcoin community) in a bad situation ?

if admin can promote themselves to admin, then that won't be a problem.
theymos should have plans to allow others being a new admin to heir this forum, as satoshi banned himself. there are also  several reasons why there are advertisements about alternated bitcoin forums laying on this forum, one of those is what your scenario is.

Any global moderator can download an encrypted bitcointalk database backup, and some of them probably regularly do. Any admin, or past admin can decrypt those backups to keep this forum running, or move it to a new domain. If theymos died one of the other admins could keep bitcointalk running. Not that theymos is likely to die soon, his profile says he's 25.

In another thread you said that database dumps can be downloaded by other admins, but only you, Gavin, Satoshi and Sirius can decrypt them.
What does "direct database access" refer to? Any admin can query the db directly and e.g. dump it and/or read PMs?

It's not about ST being an admin now; it's just a general question which popped up in my mind when I read this announcement.

Global moderators can download the encrypted database backups. Admins and past admins (Gavin, Satoshi, Sirius, me, and now justmoon) can decrypt them -- they therefore have complete access to the database and can read PMs, etc. Justmoon and I can also query the live database.

IIRC Sirius also owns bitcointalk.org (the domain), not theymos. That atleast was the case last time this was discussed.

Theymos has probably given the admins or even some of the global mods access to the webserver or even the domain, so if anything happens they can re-route the DNS to their own server or just change the user ranks and re-upload from a database. Don't worry. I'm more afraid for the wellbeing of the bitcoin network

Then we should elect one. Moderators are the best choice for this. They should post a thread here which has a poll which everyone can vote for the moderator to be elected as the admin of this forum. But ofcourse this time there should be a vice which can take over when somethings happen to the admin. Like the op's worrying about.

Sorry to burst you bubble but election is not the answer if any of the admins died and a replacement is needed. Just imagine how many alts are out there who will vote for someone who they think can protect their business and interest. As far as I know, just like how they select a moderator, its through recommendation and members can chime in but its not a vote, they can give feedback regardless if its negative or positive, then the powers that be will select among the short listed.

There's always been more than one administrator. There's been Sirius, justmoon or BadBear to back up theymos. He still remains the head administrator, though.
Upon resigning, theymos could select anybody to be the new head administrator. A trustee/current administrator however seems a good candidate.

Absolutely, I wonder why they worry that much and what makes me think is that why would they rather promote a moderator to continue theymos works. I am not saying tho that they are not capable, yet cyrus or the other active admin has the better experience and potential(i assumed that they can handle the technical issues like theymos do)
