big farms like btcc are definitely not using solar/renewables.  Solar has not yet reached grid parity ANYWHERE under any circumstance.  That is all a dreamers wish.  

The only farm to use renewable was KnC (geothermal).  They went totally broke doing that because it was expensive energy.  They said upon their exit "We've done the maths, even the Chinese farms will be unprofitable" (that is actually true that they said this).  The thing KnC wasn't considering is that the Chinese weren't buying electricity at any price, they were stealing it.  

Saudi Arabia doesn't do shit.  Just a bunch of fucking camel's wandering about the desert.  Some weird guys in tents.  About 300 princes wrecking Mercedes by drifting them around is about the only energy waste going on there.  Why do you hate the Saudi's so much?  

Maybe the oil FROM Saudi is fucking up the planet, but it isn't the Saudi's who are wasting energy.

I felt disappointed though when I saw a video of a fcuikn large bitcoin mine in China. When I first heard about bitcoin and that it was being mined using computing power, I was under the impression that anyone can do it, like everyone's a small scale miner.

Well, that's how thing are with anything, they got cheap hardware there. If they're stealing electricity to run their operations though, they must be shut down. It's not just an environmental issue for me. Unless your country is using green electricity (or maybe you charge everything via solar power) each use of electricity hurts the planet anyway. It's a question of decency. If you steal electricity, someone's gotta pay for it. You may get rich but you're still a criminal and there's no fun in that.

also if you have not researched.. the big farms such as antpool and btcc are using solar /renewables.

its the 'residential' level that use oil. which as my initial post on this topic concerned.. just 12 small hobbiests. not the mega farms/pools.

Those huge amount of power were wasted by mining bitcoin, they should be used to do something much more useful. Satoshi when inventing this was like creating a game, he would not expect it like this today.

Mining each others headers (Antpool, F2pool, BW, BTCC, VIABTC all do it), submitting empty blocks, block withholding (particularly antpool), scavenging to include only the tx's with the best fees. It's actually embarrassing for most, but they don't care, its a living for them.

Yeah on creation none could have thought of the electricity consumption. Now though the electricity charges were high, the value generated from each coin is much higher. If planned such electricity expenses too can be minimized by the large scale miners.

I generalize everything.  Why not?  It is the sensible thing to do.  "Generally, bitcoin transactions take about 10 minutes to confirm".  See how that works?  It is smart.  Not all bitcoin transactions take about 10 minutes.  Sometimes it takes a fucking hour.  But in general, they take about 10 minutes.  Now go fuck off.
