The DASH community seems like orchestrating an attack on Bitcoin. Some people there are very fed up with bitcoin and they might do it. They are enemies of Bitcoin.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Not sure what they're going for. Right now it looks like a ton of asspained users who believe that Bitcoin is going to suddenly die and Dash is going to move in to take its market share.

To be completely honest that looks like some sort of parody thread, there is no way rational individuals think killing Bitcoin is going to save the cryptocurrency economy. It would literally kill all of it.

looks more like the reddit thread OP is just busking/begging for $4.2k drug money per hour.

didnt really see any large amount of praise or desire to DDoS bitcoin. apart from the topic creator who says this in summary

Quote
right now, we could fill the block completely for an hour with $4.2k
would you pitch in to kill bitcoin?
Quote
im acting alone and have posted on the r/btc before i posted here

all i see is a poor money grabber.

that said. if bitcoin network could be threatened by one person.. then maybe bitcoin devs need to get their heads out of the sand and stop holding bitcoin back, by letting blocks get filled so easily..

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

So one crazy individual posts something stupid and you interpret this as a conspiracy by "the DASH community"??

Better hope nobody posts anywhere on the internet that Altcoins cause cancer or that would look really bad on "the Bitcoin community"  Roll Eyes

Doesn't seem like any sort of substantial threat, considering the quality of people here (based on the writing within the thread) and their firm belief that Bitcoin is going to kill itself soon and some other crypto is supposed to take over.

I'm surprised he's asking for $4k. The OP has balls, but he's not using them in the right manner. There are better scams out there.

this was a funny thing thanks for sharing I had a good laugh.
besides bitcoin has been around for 7 freaking years and it has been under all kinds of attack from attacks on the network, people trying to hack,... to stupid FUD attacks from all sides and all these times bitcoin has stood there strong going on as it was. I like to think of bitcoin as a battle hardened code.

Nobody gonna pay OP that amount so better not to worry about getting dust attack on bitcoin network. They can't keep attacking with that high cost even if OP is telling truth. There is high chance that this reddit post was just to scam few hundreds of $ from dash community.

Bitcoin is king and will be king forever cryptocurrency economy!
He was born first and was also known for their early!
The others are just copying technology systems Bitcoin!
So it may not be the king of the economic cryptocurrency
Unless they give younger techniques, to the larger income, so it will be a lot of people think of leaving Bitcoin and will move on them, but it's very unlikely to happen!
I don't hate other cryptocurrency!
I was also pleased with the other!
But don't make their ugliness for Bitcoin

Don't blame Dash -- blame Blockstream for stonewalling even the most moderate and conservative proposals to increase the blocksize.

I am at a loss as to why people still don't get it.

It would probably take at least $10k or more to DDOS Bitcoin transactions for an hour. And then, it is just an hour. That's hardly a killing blow.

I don't think this "attack plan" is a real threat to Bitcoin. But beware: There are much more powerful people out there that could want to harm Bitcoin (or simply try to profit from an attack) than the tiny Dash community. No, I'm not a conspiracy theorist but even wealthy individuals - and much more so, groups - could do that. Bitcoin shouldn't give incentives to them.

If there is no solution to the block size debate soon, such an attack is only a question of time. For example, if Bitcoin's current rally goes more volatile, speculators could see an opportunity to short it and synchronously launch a spam attack. It wouldn't be the death of Bitcoin but could lead to a major crash.

Yeah such attack plan might be a fake statement to create distraction among digital currency users. The volatility is just a part of bitcoins growth and it is not that insecure to get attacked by spams. Major crash too is not expected as the chances are high for ETF approval. Dash in the recent days is gaining strength and has took the third position in capital of digital currencies.

And there seems to be no solution in sight as well. Segwit was dead on arrival. If we are waiting for consensus, looks like we might have to wait for ever. Why look for enemies outside, when there is something which is eating us up from within?

The irony of all of this is that Dash does not have a solution to Bitcoin's scaling problems. In fact Dash actually makes these problems worse since the block reward has to used not only to support the miners but also to support the masternode network and project budget. The only thing Dash has to offer here is a one time kick the can down the road because of the effective 4 MB blocksize limit (1 MB per 2.5 min block vs 1 MB per 10 min block).

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card
