The question you SHOULD be asking is what "coin" is worth anything? What "coin" can I do anything at all with other than mine, hold or exchange for other "coins"?? From what I can tell they're all just hot air. There is nothing you can do with any of them. Now if you're mining for the sake of educating yourself on the hardware or technology involved in creating these bit so hot air then great. If you're seriously asking which is a better investment,  then you REALLY need to think about what your doing and why your spending your hard earned money on mining equipment. Seriously do you think any of these are going to be valuable, ever? Will you really be able to EVER do anything more than mine them, hold them or trade them for other coins? And if the answer you have is yes, then PLEASE explain to us why you think this way. What about any of these scrypt, scrypt-n, scrypt jane, scrypt your mom, whatever is useful or new or will DO anything??

Remember that Bitcoin is still beta software. Don't put all of your money into BTC!

The only thing any coin ever has to DO is.... make me a profit.  Beyond that I couldn't care less what happens to any coin out there.

I think it would help to compare dark to vert if darkcoin were added to this tool:

http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency

darkcoin also needs a profit calculator.

Both have interesting features, being more secure and not normal scrypt coins.  But which one, Darkcoin, or Vertcoin, should I put my hashing power to?

I think they both have excellent potential.

If you are really asking which one to mine, as in mine and dump, none of these 2 are very profitable (not the most profitable at least), so I would recommend you any other more profitable coin. If you still want one of these 2, then Darkcoin basically because your cards will consume much less electricity and the room won't get hot.

Now, if you are thinking about mine and hold, again mine any other more profitable coin, dump and buy VTC or DRK, personally I'm holding DRK because I believe it has more possibilities to have a real world use, a.k.a. a lot of demand, a.k.a. high price, it's not only about anonymity, it's about having a dev full time innovating and adding features.

Don't worry about premine, instamine, asic resistant ... just think which one has more possibilities to go 10x its current value. The reason why BTC has a high price is because it has a function outside the crypto world, DRK has one too, but I'm afraid VTC doesn't, only within the crypto world as "asic resistant" (which actually might not be desirable in the long term).

https://cointweak.com/calculator/coin/drk

And here you can find avg diff for the last 24hrs (as the diff is changing all the time and you need an avg to do the proper estimation) http://drk.poolhash.org/graph.html

Well, you can mine whatever gives you a better profit and then buy whatever looks more promising to you .

For me, Vert...but both are good. In the end, all coins need a lot of support to keep going.

Personally, I mine dark because my GPUs run at much lower temperatures and then sell the darkcoin to buy Vertocoin.

I think vert has a lot going for it (I'm not counting ASIC resistance). Although I'd definitely keep some darkcoin instead of pure vert.

I'm trying to save both and see what the future brings.

I agree. No matter how good, if no community support and no development...isn't worth anything.
