Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

This reminds me... I made a backup of my wallet a few days ago, but when I needed it I had already forgotten the PW for the flash-drive, after some digging around I found a recovery key in an encrypted zip on my encrypted partition. In short I've finally restored my wallet.  Note: Some people forget really important things, I'm one of them.  |

I find it simpler to just regularly send my bitcoins to my mtgox account. I've got a yubikey which makes it more secure.
