Finally we have done it as the current market cap sits nearly at $14 billion. This tiny currency is taking some serious shapes.

It's of course nothing compared to the market cap of certain stocks and gold, but it just means that there is a gigantic room for growth.

ATH could mean TX volume, hashrate, difficulty, or any other performance metric..

Per coin price does not hold a monopoly on the use of "all time high"

Total marketcap is meaningful to me because it signifies how well the bitcoin experiment is doing as a whole, and its at an ATH..

As the coin supply increases each coin itself is worth a smaller percentage of bitcoin as a whole, so while your wallet may not be worth what it was when BTC hit $1200, Bitcoin itself is now worth more than ever..

I do love seeing my personal stash increasing in value, don't get me wrong.. But, I am more interested in and optimistic about Bitcoin's potential to change the world and society as a whole..

This new marketcap ATH is a significant milestone to that effect IMO and should give great hope that the future of BTC is very bright..

I don't care if Bitcoins are only worth $1 each if it can provide increased liberty and freedom to people across the world and take power away from the mass manipulators of any and all authority that attempts to limit your freedom to do what you wish with your personal wealth..

Recently their is much increased hope for the future of the free world and I hope that Bitcoin plays a significant roll in that..

That may be true but I sold at a higher price than this, and I have a friend who bought at a higher price than this, neither trade was on MTgox so we were trading at the market price.

My OP is to report the FACT of a breached milestone and doesn't really have anything to do with future prediction or opinion of projection..

It doesn't look very healthy to me since everything happens in such a quick fashion. I would have a bit more trust in it when it took much longer to reach there. $1000 won't happen this year, but we might very well see the price reach $900 for a short while. So far only one real dump happened earlier today. I expect a few more of those to pop up in the coming days.

Sure it makes itself grow beyond the gigantic rooms. You see the market cap from the beginning, now only it has out broken and grown high in a small time scale. This clearly describes that mass adoptions were taking place periodically. Now we have reached ath in the market cap, lets hope for the same with the coin price too.

Do you think it will stop when it reaches the previous ATH? Why?

I think 50/50 if it crosses the previous ath it will breakout much higher.. Their hasn't even been any panic buying yet..

Two weeks ago I would have said that $1000 before the new year is not very probable.
The last few days have shown that (apparently) even $900 is easily sustainable.
I'm still a little concerned that this is a bubble and the price could drop back down, but there seems to be no end to the climb, right now at least.

@OP That's not a new ATH for the individual value of each Bitcoin, it's representing the new ATH for the market cap of all of Bitcoin (assuming that I'm reading it correctly and it is a scaled graph).

The ATH was around $1.2k for each individual Bitcoin, and we're around $270 short of that at the current value.

Umm...I don't know about that.  I really don't.  It feels like "it's different this time", which is the worst thing you can ever say in finance.  Because it rarely is different.  But the rise hasn't been as sharp, that's for sure, so this might be sustainable.

But if we crash, we're going to crash hard.  That's my prediction (which did not take a lot of brains), and I hope I'm wrong.

Correct, western exchanges will, and are pushing the price where China can only follow. It's pretty obvious how different the markets are behaving now Chinese exchanges are not the significant factor anymore. Remember how afraid people were from whatever type of news coming from China? It mostly wasn't even bad news, and still people started with dumping like there is no tomorrow. Further regulations implemented by the PBOC should have a near zero impact on the price from now on.
