This is certainly a welcome news for people who have bought bitcoins cheaply for the past few months, or to those who have been paid bitcoin. What remains to be seen is how people who are not yet into the bitcoin economy will respond to this. Of course those who have enough money can afford to buy bitcoins in hopes of making a profit but we don't know how many will adopt bitcoin if the exchange exceed $1000.

I dont understand the recent 100 dollar up, besides being someone trying to pump bitcoin at the end of the year as always happens, if we remove the halving there isnt nothing to celebrate at all.

i think the halving is what made this last pump possible, i remember that many here were saying that the halving would not bring anything but the price increase nicely because of it, instead bad news only do momentary dump, and bitcoin will always recover from bad news

Well it was expected. No instrument was able to jump in value like BTCBTCBTC ever did this year. The main question now is how can it hold this value, and not depreciate significantly.

One thing is certain - bitcoin has decoupled from Gold. Gold fell when the Fed increased interest rates. But bitcoin rose. Either the rise is a pump, or there is a dfferent dynamic driving BTC.

I'm not sure why anyone who had been following Bitcoin is surprised that Bitcoin is the best performing commodity. It has performed well, gone up massive percentages only dreamed of by some other commodity traders, and maintains a strong track record and is on its way to be bigger than before.

If you ever see wheat, oil (which actually could go up 100% if suddenly OPEC stops producing) or anything else double in value, let me know.

OK, having been through two or three of Bitcoin's majestic price cycles myself (with FUD and elation present each time), I guess the only thing I can offer up re the future would be:

If you can HODL BTC, and withstand the hard ups & downs, then the UP years will more than make-up for the DOWN ones.  [Probably]

Certainly bitcoin is one of the best performing commodities in 2016, with almost 100% gain. The further price gain will depend on China where more and more people put money in bitcoin for safe heaven.

If this trend continues duplicating or triplicating the feat it did this year, it will surpass the market capitalization of the world's leading fiat currencies. Many traders are optimistic that bitcoin can sustain the rally through the first half of the coming year but this depend on some factors that might happen in the coming days.

I won't say bitcoin is a commodity, but it certainly is an asset which outperformed all other asset class in the world. I have accumulated most of my bitcoins when it was at $450 level. So I am sitting on a huge profit at today's price. I have done nothing with the bitcoin, I had just stored it and traded with a small amount.

But the return I have received from the bitcoin storing, it was just amazing and beyond my expectation. I hope 2017 will be as exciting as 2016 for the bitcoiners.

It's crazy. Bitcoin's price's growing in an amazing pace. It's past $900 already. People who've bought or got BTC for Xmas have good reason to be happy now. We hope the best.

They should add a new terminology for Crypto currency, called CommCurrency in the financial handbook. Bitcoin is 50% currency and 50% commodity, so it is the best of both worlds. I think it has taken a gold
medal in both instances as a best performing currency and a best performing commodity. Get out the Champagne and let the bubbly flow, we are the champions in 2016! Now let's hope we can do much better in 2017 and break all records again for next year. ^smile^

Year ago price was under 300, x 3 in just one year is amazing  and that's why bitcoin is best preforming commodity. Plus we can use bitcoins as currency, to pay for different things, gamble, trade or what ever, each day more services are available for us.
If 2017 be better then this year, then bitcoin will male miracles in the world, and like someone said we will be filthy rich one day. Good luck too all of us!
