If that would not be some financial institution it might be weird. But no. Its not weird . Its very cheap way of marketing bitcoin from peer to peer. We are close the bubble guys. All confirmed.

As @OP said his friend is working in a financial company. So it is not strange give to them as a bonus 1 Btc. Maybe company has bought bitcoins long time ago when price was low. Therefore is a very good Christmas present or bonus give to them 1 btc per employee without a big cost for company. Maybe company wants to evaluate the judgement of its employees and want to see who will exchange it right now or will keep it.

So on a nice Christmas party time, drinks on the house I and my friend were discussing about Bitcoin, he's from the finance field and he generally knows a lot, so I thought I would use my Bitcoin knowledge to surprise him, wish I had not done it lol, so when I told him to invest in Bitcoin, I thought he would ask what it is and he replied he has one free bitcoin already. You can imagine the look, one free bitcoin here collecting satoshi's we hardly reach to a Bitcoin and he already has one. It so happens that the firm where he works decided to give bonus and they decided to give one free bitcoin to the selected staff and they have promised to give more in future that's so cool. You get salary, plus a Bitcoin perks of a employee life....
It is true I mean of many people who have heard of bitcoin recently and wanted to invest in it just got some money and bought it , and it is really not that hard if you do have the money for it , so you could just save some of your salary every month until you could afford it , that is what I did , you don’t have to change your job or anything.

On the contrary, it is strange. Bitcoins aren't that popular, most people still treat it as a novelty, a geek's collectible, hacker's money. I haven't heard of non-bitcoin companies to use it as payment for their employees. I wish OP would disclose the name of the company.

Wow that is a good company they just give free bitcoin without any hesitation. While us we are working hard to just gain bitcoins while their employee enjoy their easy earned bitcoin. How lucky are they. I hope that i'm a employee in that company too Grin.

This is just the 21 century version of something that my father told me it happen on the past, my father told me that decades ago his boss used to give him as a gift silver coins, now those that remember things like that will probably give bitcoin, litecoins or monero.
