I just got that message after trying a test trade, this is very like when gox stopped trades after the original crash from 32, he stopped it at 17 back then, which makes the tin foil hat brigade question if there really a hack back then.

Is this serious? @mt.gox?

Their systems can't handle the DDoS and lag problems. This is a very good thing to calm down the legions of noob weakhands causing a paradox of fear every time the lag and ddos starts up.

NO, this is manipulation and it's not OK I had just chosen to profit from the dips to get WAY more coins. They just spoiled my favourite game. (OTOH this is likely an excuse to finally do the upgrades they need)

This is really bad for me. I' half fiat at the moment and pending verification. This means I cannot get my money out to buy while they're rising.

So they did nothing when the price was jumping up and down by 100$ with a 70+ minute lag, but now that everything has calmed down a bit they stop all trading for a "cooldown"? I don't understand this.

Someone please explain to me why it's 'good news' that a single exchange trade curbs in a *decentralized* environment. Spells trouble for sure!

If they let this lag and ddos carry on it can tank things further for no damn reason. They need to upgrade the hell out of their systems.

Correct. They should have done this yesterday and were foolish to have let an hour+ of lag accumulate. They clearly have learned their lesson. This is currently the only way to fight back against the lag and ddos. Let it subside and restart trading.

gox makes money on the value of BTC, low fee's if the price is low ect, this is in mtgox interest to try and stop this selling. also any deals and partnership that they have lined up in future will be affected by bitcoin looking embarrassingly like penny stocks at this stage. nothing shakes confidence more that this. I don't believe I can trust gox at this point, also they are making it seem that lag is causing selling, but it's there dodgy system that can't handle selling that creates the lag, so they give out bad information about ddos'ers and there motives implying that you should not panic sell. they make it seem bitcoin selling wouldn't happen on its own.

The lag doesn't start the selling, but no doubt the lag creates a cascade event that becomes a near paradox of fear and selling.

Come on guys, they made a few Mio$ yesterday. Well deserved money You wouldn't have taken it? They should come back up with an absolute trading fee like .001Btc if they can't handle the traffic. It's an ugly solution but it would calm things down i guess.

so it's not the Central Bank of Bitcoin.

Confirmed on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MtGox/status/322355614414147588"Trading is suspended until 2013-04-12 02:00am UTC for market cooldown. Once back trading will be also faster." I guess MtGox thinks they're the shit and can save us from ourselves?
