1300 is the most funny one, you have to not understand markets completely to consider such a high is possible at all. Once the ATH is broken, it's going to multiply in no time. News are just a vehicle for bitcoin price movements, nothing more.

So yeah, OP has quite a legit price range prediction. 4-7k by end of summer, then retraction to 2500.

Those price predictions you quote would imply a market cap of 50-100 billion if i'm not mistaken. Do you think we'll actually get to that point this year? Not trying to troll or be bearish; I'm genuinely curious about what you think would pump the market up to that point. The fabled wall street money due to hit early summer? Something else?

you must understand that a market cap of 100 billion does not mean somebody spent 100 billion on buying coins; it's more like 2-3 billion of actual money. thats the way it works with any commodity. so yes, I do believe there are several billion curious dollars waiting on the sidelines now. for what? no idea, I'm not a billionaire. a publicly tradeable fund, a safe and reliable storage method, maybe a personal money manager suggesting to diversify into bitcoin, whatever. It will happen when it becomes obvious that bitcoin is not going to die now.

Yeah that all makes sense and by no means am I disagreeing with you, I just have trouble sifting for answers that aren't biased by my bull gut.

I know MC only represents the total value of all existing "shares" or units of a commodity or stock at the market price, but it's still staggering to think that a 100 billion could be achieved after hovering around 5-10 for so long. The thought of getting to a face-value in the same club of Disney, McDonalds, Amazon is pretty damned exciting.

One guy who built a class photo album online didn't expect a 150 billion valuation too Smiley I think bitcoin-the-idea is incomparable to the businesses you mentioned, it is much greater. What is the current valuation of internet? Is it even possible to value in terms of dollars? So what would be the value of a new world-wide financial system? No idea, but I guess there is a singularity in that graph at some point. Before we reach that, though, I fully expect bitcoin-the-rollercoaster to be an opposite of boring, as it was so far Smiley

Look.  Bitcoin has gone up at least 10× every year (100× last year).

And since it still seems early in its logarithmic adoption curve, the onus is on the newbs to explain why it WON'T go another 10× this year.

There are plenty of unpredictable nightmare situations that could conceivably happen and although I don't think any one of them would have the ability to "kill" bitcoin, they would assuredly throw a wrench in the trend machine.

I'm optimistic too, but it's folly to think this trend (or most trends for that matter) will go on with absolute certainty; hope for the best, prepare for the worst right?

Fully agreed.

Bitcoin represents a major paradigm shift in so many different fields and I'll continue to think it's wicked cool regardless of what happens to it.

It brings back that feeling I had back in the early 2000s playing an online multiplayer game for the first time and thinking "This is so f****** cool!", and then seeing internet gaming become a normal part of the average household in a decade.

In 2014, Bitcoin will continue increasing in popularity and value, Amazon or another major retailer will announce acceptance of the virtual currency.

Bitcoin growth should continue to be exponential as only early adopters have bitcoin. As in most innovative products, when bitcoin reaches the public the growth will continue to be exponential. We are only in the beginning of the take off. Much research was done about innovative products and bitcoin is definently one of them.

I think if there comes good news out, the price can go very much upwards. Otherwise, it will stabilize a little bit i think. Lets hope for the first.

The thread itself has reborn, so the cycle of ups and downs will continue and based on the support from governments and other investors the price will reach high or low in the future.
